This will be my second marriage. My first marriage only lasted 2 months due to immaturity and stupidity. I knew before the wedding I wasn't happy but thought maybe it was wedding stress and it was going to get better well... it didn't. So anyway... I don't think I have it in me to plan another wedding, nor do I want to really have another one like the last. FH doesn't mind either way. This is his first but he doesn't care if it’s a big wedding or not. Here are the issues at hand...we are paying for the wedding ourselves and closing on a house in November SO....
We went to Watermill to price out a winter wedding because we will be paying for it on our own we figured winter= cheaper. If I cut back everywhere we are still looking at around $15,000 (DJ,photo, limo, CP, hall) I would much rather put $15,000 into my home then into a wedding. Been there, done that kinda feeling. This time around its more about true love and wanting to make it official for us. His family would like to have everyone present no matter what we do, I just want my parents and siblings (and families). If we 'elope' it would be to NYC and dinner at a nice restaurant after. I found several websites that offer someone to marry us where ever we want and photography for about $1000-$1500. This is really the option I am leaning towards around this Christmas. 30-40ppl
Thoughts??

To elope or not to elope?
If you wouldn't feel like you are missing out on something then I would say ELOPE!! Save the money since it is unimportant to have a huge wedding and put it into your future together.

Follow your heart.. You are right the 'wedding' can cost alot and you guys made a big purchase with your home which can be stressful enough.. If your heart is pulling toward hiring a officiant and having it done at a restaurant where all your loved ones are present to witness it.. that sounds wonderful!!

Do it!!!!! This is my 2nd marriage also (didn't have a big wedding the first time) and 2nd marriage for FH (300 guests at his first). He insisted on the big to-do. I wanted city hall. But we compromised...
You do what you're comfortable with. I think your idea sounds lovely. Slight jealousy emerging.

Save the money and elope! Put it towards the house. Your NYC idea sounds really romantic.
I'd go for it if that's what you want and neither of you will regret it! The NYC idea is still nice, everybody you care about will be there, and you'll be saving a ton of money!

Is this FH's first wedding?! Does he want something bigger? if not, then go smaller and enjoy it!!

As long as neither of you would have regrets, eloping to NYC sounds romantic and a lot more intimate a lot less pressure than a big wedding. FH and I own a house together and are saving up for a half-dormer, so I totally hear you on wanting to put the money into your house.

agreed! or have something SUPER intimate like dinner at a restauraunt or in someones back yard.. you should def have SOME kind of celebration here with family and close friends but it shouldn't cost you that much. Elope in a beautiful place! My dream was to elope lolol I just think it's so romantic!! then have something small here..
I acutally have to thank you because you juts reminded me of why I wanted to elope and why I don't want to get caught up in so many expensive tiny details!!

Thanks for all the support! First time around I lost sight of the real meaning of marriage. This time I want it to really just be about US, not putting on a 'show' and entertaining people.

Crashing! 2010 bride here! DH and I had a civil ceremony. I had a small bouquet that cost less than $100, it was beautiful. We had a photographer do a photo shoot at city hall (Brooklyn) and at Morton's The Steakhouse, where we had all of our close friends and family come to dinner with us. We spent two nights at the Borgata, and used the money saved on our down payment for our house. It worked great for us, do what your heart tells you to do!
I feel obliged to mention that for our 5 year anniversary, we're doing a vow renewal ceremony. Haven't decided where yet though..
