to eparty or not to eparty

to eparty or not to eparty

Heres my situation:

FH and I have been engaged for over a year. We recently have been hit with a harsh dose of reality and together with a huuuuuge financial blow and were in a pickle.

My mom has been dying to throw us a small enagagement BBQ. Last year I was talking about it to FMIL and she said 'if you have one our family wont go. they dont go to those types of things. It becomes a burden on your guests.'

So after that I had such a bad feeling in my stomach that I didnt want to have one. But now I do and we need the money badly and can do one on next to nothing, but I cant get what she said out of my head.

What do you guys think? Id feel weird if no one from his side came.

screw them have a party. 99% of my E-party is MY family lol We werent gonna have one but then my dad and my MOH sister talked us into it. We figured if people decide to bring gifts ( you dont have to) we can use it towards the wedding! I say have one and invite everyoine . Maybe its just her opinion that they wont show up.....maybe they will and she will feel silly!!! lol

we are having it at eisenhower park and booke that and then the food is only gonna cost like $250! we are not haing a DJ Just a laid back party with a radio!

aw, i wouldnt worry about what she said! if you want one then there is nothing wrong with that! you deserve to be able to celebrate your engagement whether or not they decide to come!

dont let her attitude stop you!!!!! if you want one just do it

I was the same way, i sort of wanted one, was on the fence but i knew FMIL had made a comment in the past that she didnt beleive in them (but never said they wouldnt go). and when i brought it up she was okay about it, but never gave me that excited feeling. So i ended up arguing with my mom and dad (who really wanted to throw us one) saying that i didnt want one (even though i kinda did) and finally gave in and had one and WE ARE SOOOO HAPPY WE DID!!! and FIL's had a great time tooooo!!! infact i think FH's side had a better time than mine hehe FH and I had the best time!!!!!

So if you really want one, do it!!!

I agree all around! Etiquette says (and I use this term loosely)...you don't have to bring a gift! So people aren't pressured to bring one. If they do great! If they don't, great! Whatever! Have the freakin party and have a freakin good time.

...and that's my advice...LOL

if you want one then you should have one!

there are always going to be people that don't approve.

my brother didnt even come to mine bc he doesnt 'believe' in them.

I agree with everyone. If you really want one, and can make one fit in your budget, then go for it! Its just another part of the planning that someone has something to say about, but when it comes down to it, its your wedding, your eparty and everything is up to you!!
