To go away or not, that is the question UPDATE: Good Cancun Hotels?
FI wants to go away for our 4yr anniversary, Dec 6th-9th. It will be one year since he proposed. I'm nervous about going away because I feel that we should be saving all our money for our wedding but I do feel we both need a break. We are considering going to Aruba and staying at the Renaissance ($107 a night plus tax, not all inclusive) or Cancun and staying at the Flamingo Cancun Resort & Plaza ($59 each a night all inclusive) or going to Aguadilla Puerto Rico and staying at Cielo Mar($249 for 3 days 2 night w/ breakfast, welsome cocktail, champagne and t-shirts). These are discount prices I get because I'm a flight attendant. What do you guys think? I'm also worried because it's right before Christmas and his birthday is Dec 28th. I don't know if we should go away or not and if so where?

I worry about spending all the time too, but I think you should go away just the one that seems more reasonable than the other two. and make sure to have a great time.

make sure if you go away you have the best time, don;t spend the whole time saying you shouldn't have spent the money....I would chose something that is affordable yet will allow you two to get away for a while

if you go away i would not suggest aruba. meals in aruba get expensive, very expensive.

I love vacations, so i would say definately go away, but you have to see what is in your budget first.

Go on vacation! Yes, you'll spend a little money but those prices you quoted are more than reasonable. And with all the stressing you've been doing about finding your RH, you really deserve a break. Go lie out on the beach with some cocktails, have a great time with FH and remind yourself why you're marrying him, and then come back here refreshed and ready to tackle the next 1000 things on your list!

go because you are getting married in 2009, You definetly need to get away. You can not budget that much were you guys do not do anything till then. You need a treat ever now and then. Go relax and enjoy each other.

i say go for it. I personally would try and do something more all inclusive! What about Punta Cana...like Secrets? you can get a deal and a 1/2 for that place!!

Thanks everyone! Yeah, you're right. We need to go away. I can't picture not doing anything or going anywhere for the next 3 years until the wedding. We won't do Aruba because it's too expensive but I think we are going to go to Cancun, Dec 6th-9th for 3 nights Can anyone recommend a nice, affordable hotel in Cancun. I was going to stay at the Flamingo but I checked their trip advisor reviews and they weren't so good. I've never been to an all inclusive but I think that's what we're going to do this time. It'll probably work out cheaper. Thanks again for the reassurance that it is okay to spend a little money and take a break!

We went to Cancun for spring break last year and stayed at the Golden Crown Paradise Spa (all inclusive). I think it's since been renamed to Golden Parnassus something or other...VERY reasonable and lots of fun! Not the best food- but the beach was gorgeous, the pool was great and the bartenders were awesome! Lots of night trips to clubs and stuff too. If you're partiers, this is your place!!! Try to find it on Expedia. Has great reviews on tripadvisor.com. Or at least it did when I booked it!

Definitely go!
I was worried about the same thing. FH and I wanted to go wine tasting in CA for a week the week after Thanksgiving... Since we have the wedding comig up next summer (date TBD), we were worried about spending too much. What we opted to do was go somewhere closer / less expensive. So we're going away for 3 nights to the fingerlakes to this very romantic hotel and then doing 2 days of wine tasting. It's about 1/3 of the price of the other trip, but we'll still get a break and have fun.
If the wedding is still a couple years away, definitely take advantage of this opportunity to get away -- even if it's just for a few days somewhere nearby. Go for it!

We stayed at the Melia Cancun about 4-5 years ago. It was an amazing hotel, beautiful, romantic and unique. It is not a typical chain hotel. Each room that faces the ocean has a separate and PRIVATE balcony. Definitely get ocean front room if you go there. I loved it.

if you are really concerned about spending too much money for going away for a week, go less than a week. Search for the best deal and go for it! I wish my parents would let us go away together other than just weekend trips to visit friends!

I actually stayed at the Flamingo Resort-all inclusive when I was in college...although I dont remember it being that inexpensive...
it is not a fancy hotel-but def. does the job-rooms were clean-food was good-the dinner included was just okay so we did dinner out on our own -but the beach bar food was awesome-drinks were included and good! the beach is RIGHT there and the pools are nice. they have a swim up bar and you can also get hot dogs and burgers and things-they have staff that plans things to do if thats what you are interested in...
It was PACKED with college kids when we were there-which was fine cause we were in college-and we went for spring break (dh and I) keep that in mind, if its not something you want...
I think for a quick, inexpensive place-this is a good choice
