I am conficted between having a videographer or not for my wedding. A part of me really wants one because I think watching it later in life will be awesome. Pus FH and I will be so busy with the formalities of the wedding (ie greeting all the tables, taking pics, etc.) we might miss things going on that a cameraman might catch.
On the other hand. I feel like this might be a good place to cut some costs? I amhaving a big wedding and my parents are awesome and are helping ALOT I just don't want them to go broke for my wedding...
Any advice? Or can anyone recommend a reasonably priced one?

Re: to have a videographer or not??
we originally weren't going to do video bc we weren't sure if we'd ever watch it and its a lot of money we could save by not having it..
however...so many people have said we will regret not doing it. my sister says the only thing she regrets from her wedding is not doing video...bc the day goes so fast that you miss a lot. also, it would be great to have the video to show our children one day...so we are now leaning towards having a videographer.

Re: to have a videographer or not??
I definitely say Yes to videographer. FH & I love watching videos. Since you will be having a huge wedding at JT( I am also getting marry there), hire one. There will be time when videographer will catch something that you & FH miss. JT is so beautiful and your wedding will be too......don't you want to watch it on video...
As for the price, we book with Ariana Studios on Jericho Tpke for videographer. We paid 1795 for an all day event with 3dvd edited. I know most girls on here use HALO. I heard they were cheap and they do great work!

Re: to have a videographer or not??
this is the longest debate in the history of LIW... here is my take on it:
yes its nice to see moving pics of ppl you love from your wedding... HOWEVER i have been to weddings were the videographer made the whole wedding annoying... they were constantly in everyone's face and RIGHT IN FRONT of the B&G and what was going on to the point where we couldnt see ANYTHING!!
we did not get a video (and i dont regret it AT ALL!!) and here is my explanation... i would be one of those ppl to watch it once-maybe twice to show MIL & my mom and then it would sit there on the shelf. if you KNOW you are this kind of person and you are perfectly happy with still pictures to look back on your day with - then i say spend the $$ on other things!!
as it is, we got our album last month and i've looked @ it once... twice if you count when MIL & my mom looked at it together

Re: to have a videographer or not??
For me personally it was worth it and a must have FOR ME. Looking back there are parts that are a blur and parts i missed that well every bride misses. Such as me never getting to see my mom walking down the aisle, my bp, his parents, or entrances into the reception. I had to hear about what they did but never saw it since im last obviously. Plus i had videographer go to DH's house to film him while he was getting ready, i love being able to see that. I look at pics during BIL's speech and i see myself histerically laughing in the pics, and then some parts i see dh teary eyed. I can remember part of it but of course you wont remember word for word, i love that we'll be able to watch it and hear it word for word again. And just to be able to hear ourselves and watch ourselves exchange vows and dancing our first dance, to be able to just sit back and see how it looked and the looks on our faces is great.
I will admit that some are in your face. Ive been to weddings where they have 5-6 ppl for photo/video and for some reason they stand together in the middle of the dance floor taking pics and with their video cameras, which doesnt make sense to me bc why are those 5 ppl getting all the same shots and stuff lol, spread around the room lol. BUT luckily mine werent in your face, i dont even remember them during most of the reception. After it was funny bc i kept thinking 'omg did they miss this part, or i hope they captured this' but then in guests pics i see them all the way in the background and saw that they captured it. Our videographer promised a non-obtrusive approach and he did just that.
Also very important to me is that i am able to send video to family members who couldn't make it. I have alot of family overseas who were not able to make it, such as my grandfather who has health problems and not allowed to fly. So this way he is able to see it as it happened. And also very important is to one day show our children. I always wished my parents had video of their wedding day.
Its up to you, some arent into it and wouldnt really watch it. That is also why we are getting 5 dvd's. We have a raw footage one, an edited version but we also have a few DVD's that are short, one is a movie trailer which is just a few mins. Theres also highlight dvd which is 15 mins or so. So this way we can show ppl if we want and not have them sit there a long time watching it lol

lol there are alot of reasonable priced videographers. Some that are $1500 or under. Plus theres alot of students who are willing to do it for less so there are options. Or have somebody film the important parts such as ceremony, first dance, speeches and all those moments.

Re: to have a videographer or not??
I didn't get a videographer and honestly I am glad we didn't. It saved us a bunch of money and also I tried to listen to everyone's advice to slow down and enjoy the day. I didn't feel like I missed anything. I am sure it would be cool to see the day replayed but for us that would mean cutting something that we really wanted and we weren't willing to do that.

You are 100% right and totally convinced me I must have one! Thank you!! I didn't even think of the processional or when the bp is announced in!!
Plus I think FH and I will watch it, our proposal was on video by the camera men on a cruise we were on where he popped the question. We have already watched it like 100 times, alone and while showing our family who obviously wasnt there

I don't think I could imagine not having a videographer on the day of my wedding. There are so many things I feel like I'm going to miss out on and I'll be so busy, I want to look back and see it all again. Plus, its going to go by so fast, I'm afraid I wont rememebr every detail!

Skip It! No one ever wants to watch them! We are saving ourselves at least $1,000! I would put the money toward a better photographer. The pics you will look at, but the videos will sit in a drawer and become a $1,000 dust collector.

Re: to have a videographer or not??
OMG I just got my wedding video 3 days ago and I've watched it like 10 times already. Well, not the whole video but I like to watch the highlights. I was on the fence about getting a video before the wedding but I'm so glad we did because my videographer filmed stuff that I missed. I'd say between my videographer & photographer, together they got everything. Now I just need to figure out how to take still shots from the video. Definately get the video if you can swing it.

YES YES YES! Trust me you wont regret it, its like reliving the day all over again...we saw things we didnt...it was amazing to see Dhs face while I was walking down the aisle...I cry everytime I watch it!
