To have or not have

To have or not have

Hi all,

I'm alil confuse. I was discussing with my FH about having menu cards set up on the table. He doesn't think it's neccessary cause he said, the waiters will be coming around and letting ppl know anyways. I told him, I just feel each table should at least have something to explain to the guest what is on the menu. He doesn't feel that that extra $$ should be spent. He doesn't think it's mandatory and neither do I but still.. ..What do you ladies think? Is it a must or not

Do they have choices of the entree?

I do think you should have menus cards at each table. I find at weddings when waiters come around and tell you the choices, between the music being loud and the fact that you feel rushed to choose one, its hard to decide.

Dont worry about the added cost....you can do them yourself very inexpensively. I did mine SUPER cheap. I went to AC Moore and bought card stock paper for really cheap (like .40 cents a sheet) and just printed them up myself and cut them.

Are you sure that your RH doesnt set up menus? a lot of RH are now doing that. I would call and ask.

If not I think that if you are trying to watch your expenses...I dont know. I mean I don't think that menu cardsd are expensive at all. All you have to do is pay for paper...everything else is on the computer.

I'm going to do menus because it's difficult to hear the waiters over the music and soemtimes their english isn't great. Plus, I want to know what the dish is, not just steak, chicken or fish. And my hall comes around and offers seconds so I want my guests to know they have that option as well.

Yup, and remember you only need 2 or 3 for each table, not one per guest!

ETA - Ask your hall if they include them. Mine does (and it even has our names on it already!)

It's not necessary,but it's a nice touch.

Thank you all..This is what I was thinking too...At least put 2-3 on each table...but my FH was thinking that I wanted it on everyone's dish. I was also trying to explain to him that menus are not expensive to print out..He could be somewhat hard headed sometimes...

Thank you all ladies..I'm going to go ahead and do it anyways...

This is correct! You don't need them. I went to weddings with and without menus on the table. I decided to do them as a last minute DYI because I had the time. If you run out of time, I would skip it.

If you do it, you give one per person. Nobody likes to share menus.

i read on an etiquette article that said its okay to have 3 menues per table of 10 people. What do you girls think? How many of you are doing one per person or a few per table?

nice, but not necessary.

my RH printed them, if they hadn't, i wouldn't have done them

Re: To have or not have

Menus are nice, but up until the last few years they were completely unheard of at a wedding, and from what I know, it is a very LI thing. Completely not necessary.

I never thought about this

I didn't do them and they weren't missed.

It's not necessary BUT to be honest at most weddings it's hard to hear over the DJ what the entrees are and we always have to ask them to repeat themselves, so really I love the idea.

NICE THOUGHT BUT NOT NECESSARY

I like seeing a menu in front of me.. it give the guest some time to look it over while they are waiting for the bride& bridal party to make their entrance and it just looks nice on the table. Also, i would do 1 per person.

They're nice, but not neccessary.
Additionally, if you do your names all fancy on them, its even more $!
But it's YOUR wedding! do whatever YOUR heart desires!

Re: To have or not have

DEFINITELY an optional thing. It is a great convenience for those picky eaters like me (who hates cheese and most waiters really don't know what's in all the dishes) but if you are trying to stick to a budget you can pass. Perhaps if you KNOW certain family members have allergies it would be an extra convenient touch, but again, the server can probably find out. I did 3-4 menus per table and ppl were fine with sharing, but has been the only one I've been to that has had them.

I did my menu in 2 columns on a 'landscape' oriented sheet of paper. That way we got 2 menus for every 1 piece of paper. HTHs.

I made ours and I'm glad I did. It was a really nice touch at the tables and I thought it made a very classy presentation. Not to mention I know sometimes at weddings it's somewhat hard to hear what the waitstaff says, having the menus there (we did one per guest) made things easier for our guests... IMO
