To invite or not to invite

To invite or not to invite

So we are working on our final guest list but there are a few people i'm still unsure about. I have a friend who I speak to here and there, but I know her through someone I'm no longer friends with (that's how I met her). I feel bad not inviting her, but another part of me feels like I know her through my xfriend so it would be uncomfy for everyone. WWYD??

Re: To invite or not to invite

I had a few people I wasn't sure about inviting so I kinda waited. I sent my main batch of invites out very, very early (April 1st for our July 18 wedding). After a few weeks, I started thinking about it more.

I slowly started to invite the people I wasn't sure about. One was my trainer who I worked with for 3 years but had a small falling out with about a month before the invites went out. We weren't really speaking and I was totally uncomfortable with her because we had started to cross the line between a professional relationship to a friendship, and it wasn't working because I totally felt obligated to employ her and give her money! I used the wedding as a reason I couldn't afford her fees and stopped working with her.

After a month break and thinking more and more about it, I decided she was a major part of my life and I still really like her and her friendship meant so much to me (plus, because of her, I lost 40 lbs!!!) so i invited her with her new bf. I actually even included a note in the invitation saying they should NOT feel obligated to bring me a gift (since the money thing has always been weird between us).

If you're going to feel awkward having someone, don't invite them. But if they're your friend, then you should. They may always decline to come.

FH wanted to invite his high school gf. We're talking about 10 years ago they dated for a year. I never liked her (still don't) and did NOT want to invite her and her fiance. But he really wanted her there and considers her one of his oldest friends. So, she's invited. And coming. I'm not thrilled, but it's fine in the end. She's not going to ruin our day, and it meant a lot to him, so the invite went out.

Sorry this is so long! It's hard to relate exactly, but maybe this gives you some more ideas to mull over when deciding your question.

If you really don't speak to her much, then i wouldn't invite her. It's better to have those near and dear to you there on your special day.

IMO for me I wanted to invite people that are important in my life whatever that means. . like not the person you are friendly with today for circumstantial reasons but that someone who will be in your life for a while wether it is seeing them once a year or once a week ,. I just think if you think of your day and you would be happier with them there invite them and if not. . save a spot!

I probably wouldn't invite her. . .only if it was ABSOLUTELY necessary.

We waited if we weren't certain and now they are trickling out.
