To Irene about Burtons

Hi, I am meeting with Burtons in mid-Nov. I wanted to ask you for some advise. Any hints on how to work with them? Were you able to negoiate price? Did they ask you for budget up front? I am trying to keep my flower costs under control. I want small hand-tied bouquets, very simple. Nice, but nothing lavish centerpieces and I want to do tussy mussy's for the mother's instead of coursages. Plus a few ceremony and extra things. I appreciate any help!!

To Irene about Burtons

They were the first florist I went to. I went to meet Michael with my sister-in-law who had used Burton's when she married my brother a couple of years ago and their flowers were beautiful. (When she was planning, she went to a lot of L.I. florists and she said Burton's prices were half of what the other florists were asking.) I didn't go with a budget in mind, because I really had no idea what flowers would cost and I didn't negotiate price because I got the feeling he was already giving me a great deal and I didn't want to push my luck. Honestly, that vendor is the one I'm most comfortable with and feel like I didn't get ripped off! He seemed comfortable with throwing in things - for example, I didn't ask for a 'throw-away' bouquet, but he included it anyway. I asked if they could put some flowers on the cake (nothing major) he said fine. He said I could put down whatever I wanted to book him (I gave $25) and never asked me to sign anything. I think he knew I couldn't get a better deal with the other florists I had been considering.

I don't have the phone # handy, but they're in Suffolk County in Long Island. You should speak with Michael -he's the owner.

Thanks for the # - I made appt for tomorrow - need tips

I just made an appointment with Michael for tomorrow morning. This is my first appointment with a florist - can anyone give me some tips on what I should expect or need to know. This is the one area where I have no idea about what I want. I saw other peoples posts about needing banquets and boutonnieres (sp) and corsages (sp). Any other info would be greatly appreciated. I'll post my review tomorrow. Thanks again.
