To read or not to read?

To read or not to read?

I wasn't sure if I should have a reading or not at the ceremony. We are having the ceremony outside at the venue. I was thinking it would be nice to have something read to set the tone for our marriage, but here are my reasons for not...tell me if they are legit

1. If it is hot (Labor day) will people really want to be sitting in the sun waiting for the readings to be over with?

2. It is just another person I have to pick and not hurt someone else's feelings. Someone else I have to organize and another gift I have to buy.

What are you all doing and what do you think I should do? TIA!

My minister father is fuming because I nixed readings...my personal feelings are I don't like sitting through them as a guest and I didn't enjoy it when I was a reader so why would I do it at my wedding...lol..

I'm having one. But we are having the full Catholic Mass.

I'm getting married outdoors at my RH in July. I plan on doing one reading, but I think its going to be a short poem by e.e. cummings. I also will probably have a member of my BP read it, and if I do I won't do an extra gift.

it is really a personal thing. I know my sister had my brother and her FSIL read as a way to honor them-they were both in the BP already ( since i was the MOH and her husbands brother was the BM). I had a fully Jewish ceremony and it is not traditional to have readings- so i didn't have any. It is really about you. If you don't feel strongly (and it sort of seems like you don't) then there is no reason to have them.

Hmmm, the poem idea is a good one. I will look into maybe a short and sweet poem that perhaps sums us up :)
