Hi All, My Fiance has a tux that he bought about 4 or 5 years ago for a friends wedding. He has worn it about two times since. I am not sure if the fit is still right, not that he can't get it altered again. And I am not sure if it was very fancy or not, just your standard black tux. Now he needs one for our wedding and he wants to wear it again because he says he bought to be worn and he doesn't want to waste money renting another one. Although I agree with that, a part of me wants him to rent another one, one I haven't seen him in, one that might be fancier and might be more updated in style. And of course sized for him now. I am wearing a gown that he can't see till the big day, why can't he wear something new to me?
I wanted to know what everyone thought about this. Should he wear the tux he owns or should he be wearing something different for his special day? He can always wear his again some other time. Or should I not stress about this and save money? Thanks, Jen

How much is a tux rental? And how many GM's do you have? Depending on where you go, if the GM's et their tuxes there, the Groom can get his for free. In which case, I'd totally have him get one for your wedding for exactly the reason you say--you're gonna be all shiny and new, so why shouldn't he?
But if he has to pay, I'd weight the cost of the rental vs what it would cost for him to get his altered. If it's cheaper to get it altered, have him get a new front for it (shirt/vest/tie). HTH

My Fiance's tux would most likely cost us because We only have three other tux's to rent. Not sure about alteration costs yet. Thanks

I'd vote for the rental for a few reasons 1-you dont have to stress about cleaning it or storing afterward 2- sometimes alterations are included so that part is taken care of 3- peace of mind and guarantee of being able to choose the exact style/color you want.
How does FH feel about it? Is he for using his or renting?

If he already has a proper tux, I would say let him wear it. You can always make it stand out by getting him a nice new marcella front shirt, low-cut vest or cummerbund, and stud set.
If he doesn't have a proper tux, I'd say have him rent a nice one-button, peak or shawl lapel. You want him looking very formal and traditional.

Re: to rent or not to rent a tux
If the tux he has is nice/formal enough, i would let him wear it ... but i'd get him to maybe rent a vest / tie / otherwise for it so part of it is new to you
however, as the other girls mentioned, you should also consider the cost of renting a tux (men's warehouse tuxes are in the $150 range ... they give a free tux rental to the groom with a certain number of GM tux rentals)
