Out of curiousity...how many of us are planning on staying on LI after we are married?
My FH & I would lovvve to own a home, but it is unlikely that will ever happen here (esp with the cost of taxes ) So we were discussing moving to CT or somewhere along those lines...anywhere really that he can find a racetrack (he races at riverhead)....

Re: To stay or not to stay..
I thought FH would be a Long Island boy FOREVER! But then I relocated to Philly for work and he came with me!! Now we talk about where we'd live if we ever buy a house and he says he can see himself staying here forever! I can't believe it!

FH and I are always talking about where we are going to live after we get married. I would love to stay in NYC, but with the prices of houses and just rent i don't see how we're going to be able to afford anything. So i dunno maybe NJ or CT.

We already relocated! We could never afford LI and I have absolutely no desire to ever live there again so it was an easy choice!

FH and I just bought a house on LI so we won't be moving anytime soon. Plus all of my family is here and I would never leave them.

Re: To stay or not to stay..
we've struggled with this issue and even talked about moving to CT ourselves bc it's a place where i could still make halfway decent $ as a teacher. it's tough to leave family--especially when we're thinking so much about --and i think we're just going to cross that bridge when we come to it.

Re: To stay or not to stay..
I will be graduating 9 months before the wedding and since FH just found a job on the island a few months ago, I won't make him move again so soon. So I will look for a job on LI or in the city. After a year or two when we're ready to buy a house, we'll first look for better jobs (if we don't like the ones we're in) within the tri-state area and then buy where we find jobs.

We'll most likely stay, most of our family is here. But we really love Newport, RI.

We are definately staying on Long Island. We just bought our first place (a co-op) and my whole family is here. Plus I just love NY! No where else is the same.

My FH loves to race too! Maybe you and your FH can check out Jersey- they have a lot of Tracks down there- Englishtown, Island, and Atco. Also, to bring your hopes up- if you check out real estate in the town of Oyster Bay section, taxes remain pretty low. Around 5000. It's pricey but far cheaper than other towns.
As for myself and FH, I am completely blessed that my future in laws are giving us a house. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't know what to do!!!

I don't live in LI now and after the wedding.....we'll more than likely be moving up to Westchester.

Re: To stay or not to stay..
FH is already in VA. He is from LI and moved there the summer that we met. We were just friends at the time and I went to go visit him. I guess the rest is history So, sometime between now and Aug. 09, I'll be relocating to VA.
