... what is the big deal about tanning when you're pregnant? Is this a myth?
I feel pale as hell, though I'm sure a lot would disagree, but I always look forward to the summer, beach/pool & sun. Is this really an issue? How does it affect the baby? And have any pregnant-during-summer moms tanned anyway, and nothing happened?
TIA!

Re: To tan or not to tan...
I definitely tanned in the summer, I think they don't want you to tan at a tanning salon, those tanning beds get way to hot and that is dangerous for the baby!! was pretty tan the summer I was pregnant with my 1st born, I spent most of the summer at the beach since it forced me to sit, read a book and relax!!

I can't WAIT for the summer either..I heard the same thing abou the tanning beds. Natural sun is OK. I want to ask my dr about the spray tan (mystic) though. Not sure if that is OK or not. I too feel so pale and gross!

Drink plenty of water and dont sit in the sun too long to raise your body temp too high and go get a nice tan!!

When I was pregnant in the summer, I would go to the beach for maybe an hour at a time. i would get too hot and it would make me feel sick. Just be sure to drink plenty of water.

I was in Mexico at 6 weeks pregnant. I was tan but like Dee being in the sun for too long would make me sick. So I would just be careful and drink a ton of water.

Woooohooo! I like ALL of your responses! Simply because I get to still enjoy being outdoors, and NOT under an umbrella. I'm sure that I'll feel uncomfortable under the sun for long periods of time, but I'd like to get a little tan... not as much as I normally would (since pre-pregnancy, I'd be outside playing softball every Sat for 4-5 hours), but just enough to not feel deprived. I don't want to look ghastly when I give birth - can't scare the baby!...
