To the 07'ers from the 06'ers........with love

Original post by SweetCin704

Ladies this post comes a few days early before your big year begins, just a few words of advice from us already married girls.....

First, enjoy EVERY moment not only of your day, but all the parties, RD and hm....the entire time flies by so fast, and before you know it you are back from your hm & looking at your proofs!

The week of your wedding, just let go...at that point whatever will be, will be. Don't stress the small stuff (things are bound to go wrong, but keep the big picture in mind---at the end of the day the only true thing that matters is you are marrying the love of your life, not that the cp flowers were only partially open).

Don't stress the weather, I was on every weather site for 2 weeks before my wedding and went through every emotion as torrential downpours were forecast-- but as the week went on, it kept getting downgraded to rain; to possible showers; to partially cloudy, to the mostly sunny day that we had. You cannot change the weather, so don't let it control your day. No matter what, your day will be beautiful; and if it rains, there were so many brides that took wonderful pictures in the rain, that wouldn't have been as dramatic if the sun was shining.

Also, be sure to tell your dad (or whoever is lifting your veil) to be sure to smooth it down. My dad didn't & my MOH didn't realize until after our vows so it is all weird on the video and blocking my face.

After the day PICTURES are what you have of that day; have total FAITH in your photographer and if you don't, keep looking! Be very specific with what you want, provide them with a list and have someone have a copy of that list to kind of keep a mental picture of those pics that are truly impt to you to get taken. If you are splurging on one thing, make your photographer, IT.

Also if you are contemplating a videographer, but aren't sure, go for it. You can't go back, once the day is done.

EAT! We regret not eating during our CH, b/c everyone is grabbing you and talking to you--we should have set aside 10 minutes to sit down & truly enjoy the amazing food. We did eat our dinner though---you are served first, so sit down & eat & then you can go around to the tables (if you are doing this).

At some point during the day step back and take it all in, look around, memorize every little detail from that moment---after the big day THIS is what you are going to remember and hold onto.

Remember the wedding is only ONE day in a lifetime of moments, don't get so caught up in your day that you forget the love you have for each other and the lifetime ever after.

Love you girls....may you all have a beautiful wedding day and many happy memories. ENJOY YOUR YEAR, before long it'll be you guys posting this same post to the 08 girls, believe me!!!!! It flies by!!!!!!!

Well ladies before you know it you will be in the same freak out stage we all went thru..... Single Digits

The best advice I can give is not to sweat the small stuff. No one but you will notice the little things. Stay focused on the real point behind the whole day.....you are marrying your best friend!

Best of luck to you and enjoy the final planning. I am sure you all will be beautiful brides and will have amazing days. Dont forget, us 06'ers are here to help with any questions you have.

Dont forget to do your review for the future brides, I know the 05 reviews we very helpful to me when I was planning my wedding.

Congrats! It is your year.

My advice:

In no particular order of importance:

Bridal party thoughts:

-Pick who you want standing next to you. Do not let your mother or aunt or cousin or FMIL bamboozle you into choosing anyone.

-Dont dictate what shoes your BP should wear. I hate open toe stilettos and I would refuse to wear them no matter how big the hissy fit of the bride was.

-Have mercy upon your bridal party. If your BM is a size 20 and needs a bigger dress - SO WHAT. Be a grown up and deal with it. Not everyone is a model and no not everyone will look great in the same dress. Along those lines,be considerate to the larger and smaller sized girls in your BP. Having been a size 24 myself, I know that just because a dress CAN be made bigger, also doesnt mean it will look good.

-Along the same lines if your MOH is pregnant and you think it will ruin your pictures, it wont. A wedding is a celebration of family. What better way to celebrate a growing family than the pending birth of a child.

Bachelor Parties:

-Let him go. Let him have the stripper. If you doubt his commitment because of strippers, then perhaps marrying him isnt a great idea. DH had lesbian strippers at his BP. I knew about it.I could care less.

Mothers-In-Law:

-Extend yourself to your level of comfort. If you are well-received, TERRIFIC. If not, know you did your best and move on.

Mothers:

-Pick and choose your battles. Even if they arent paying a dime for the wedding, allowing them to have SOME opinions will make everyone's lives MUCH easier.

-If she wants to wear black. Let her wear black.

Fathers:

-Kiss them. Hug them. Tell them that you will always be their little girls. I envy each of you who have that chance.

Financial matters

It is a well-known fact that most marriages that end in divorce, end because of financial matters and not infidelity. So that being said, try not to start your marriage in debt, just like Chrissy said.

-If you have to charge something and you can't pay it off right away, then the odds are you cannot afford it. Pick a different vendor or forget it.

-You will more than likely not get as much in the way of cash gifts as you think you will. It doesnt matter if your guests are as rich as Trump, people do stiff you or they run cheap.

-Yeah yeah I know a wedding is about family blah blah blah and gifts arent the focus blah blah blah, but there have been MANY posts about how much money a person can expect to get back for various reasons.

-Don't count on gifts to total the cost of your wedding or the down payment of a house.

Im sure I will come up with more.

I was going to post something too to you all from an 05er....

the next year is going to be amazing but crazy busy--try to enjoy every minute of it and keep in mind the big picture---your wedding day is the day you are marrying the love of your life and that is the only thing that really matters.

07ers will have a special place in my heart since my sister is one of you! I'll be around to help out. Good Luck and Happy New Year! Enjoy ringing in YOUR year!

Wow, all good pieces of advice, I am sitting here tearing up, could be the pregnant hormones, or just reflecting on what a fabulous year all of us 06'ers had and how lucky you are to all get to go through what will hopefully be a once in a lifetime experience......

Much of the advice I would give any of you has already been given, so my recommendation to all of you is to keep a timeline and checklist and try to stick to it, you WILL have a week or two (or more) where you are actually sick of wedding related things and dont want to even talk about wedding plans or tasks, so if you have a list to remind you, you wont let things fall too far behind.

Good Luck to each and every one of you and enjoy the upcoming year.........

A lot of you read what was on my MySpace blog about this entire subject....so I will try to add on things that have yet to be mentioned on here:

1. Let people help you if they offer it. Planning a wedding is not an easy task. Enlist the help of others when necessary, but don't be surprised if some things you end up doing alone. On that note:

2. Try to get some alone time every so often, whether it's with your FH or without. It's one of the few ways I was able to keep my sanity in tact.

3. While the details do matter, don't drive yourself insane about it. It's one day. You will not be any less married if your napkins don't match the BM dresses.

4. Make sure you are happy with every aspect of your wedding. The second you are not, do what you have to do to rectify the situation.

5. Keep in mind this is your and your FH's wedding and no one else's. Everyone and their mother will have an opinion on how you should do things. Take it all with a grain of salt and then do things the way you both want to.

6. Remember this is your FH's wedding day also. You are not marrying yourself. So if he has any requests, take them into serious consideration. And try not to drive him crazy in the process as hard as that can be sometimes!!

Your wedding day really is all the hype everyone makes it out to be. You're content, happy & giddy because all the hard work has finally paid off & you get to see the fruits of your labor. You finally begin the rest of your life with your husband at your side. It goes by in the blink of an eye, so try to live every minute of it as much as you can.

Congrats to all the 07ers!!! Your time has come!!!

Re: To the 07'ers from the 06'ers........with love

Everyone has given great advice so far. I just wanted to add a few things that I haven't seen mentioned:

1-If you think, even a little bit, that you might have a hard time sleeping the night before you're wedding, TAKE SOMETHING! I got NO SLEEP whatsoever the night before our wedding. Then I tried to sleep an extra few hours in the morning..I wish I could have spent that time having breakfast/spending time with my family

2-Do as much as you can ahead of time. If you need a break from planning, give yourself a day or two, but make sure you stay on track!

3-Listen to the things your friends and family suggest and take them into consideration, don't just blow them off as being stupid or annoying. If it's not for you, be gracious about it. I'm amazed with how well we got along with everyone during planning, and I think a big part of it was b/c I kept reminding myself of the above

4-On the same note, if there are details that are important to you, but other people say they are stupid, or that 'no one does that', go with your gut!! It's your day and your personal touches will be appreciated by your guests and make it truly feel like YOUR celebration. People told us that our first dance song and some other music ideas we gave the dj were things no one would understand, b/c they are not 'typical wedding music' Music is really important to us, and I'm so happy we stuck to our guns. It made me so happy to dance to our 1st dance song which has a lot of history for us, to hear the songs our dj played and we received so many compliments about our music afterwords, that it was so different and personal, and truly us, and that our guests really enjoyed it!

I also want to wish you ladies the best for your year. I keep having to pinch myself..I cannot believe '06 is almost over, but thinking of all of your weddings coming up makes me happy! I'm looking forward to seeing your excited posts as your days approach and to seeing all of your pics!!

Have a wonderful, happy year!
