In my family it is tradition to have formal black tie events, Not so much for FH. We discussed it last night and FH felt that the majority of our friends are not used to such formal affairs & will probably be turned off by the need to rent a tux. I see his point so I figured we would go OPTIONAL...but FH called this afternoon and said he changed his mind and thinks it would be a great idea to go completely black tie. I'm on the fence now & will prob need to have a pow-wow w/my Dad & Step - Mom. So that got me wondering what you ladies were planning?

i say optional, you don't want people spending more $$ than they have to

Re: To tie or not to tie
We're going with suits for the guys, no tuxes. But our's is a Sunday afternoon in a more garden-y setting, so it goes with our flow.

It will not be black tie! I am not going to specify anything further on the invite, I think people know what is appropriate to wear to a wedding.

Optional for me......I actually prefer for only the GM's and fathers to be in tuxes....that way they stick out more.

Re: To tie or not to tie
I didnt even know that this is an option. I thought that all the guests wear ties, I didnt know u can ask them to wear black tie only live and learn I guess (I am from Israel where people have 'formal' jeans )
so does this mean we're having an 'optional' event?

Re: To tie or not to tie
i lolve the idea but i know fh and his friends absolutely HATE tuxes, fh isnt even wearing one for our weddings, also its an added expense for your guests (unless they are of the rare few that actually own one), so i voted optional

Re: To tie or not to tie
I think in this economy, its alot to ask people to rent a tux as most people probably dont own.

Re: To tie or not to tie
I definitely don't like the idea of telling your guests what to wear and I don't want an added expense, so no black tie for us.
