My FH said he doesn't want a video of our wedding because:
1. He hates himself on tape 2. He doesn't think we'll ever watch it 3. Videographers are often so intrusive
I'm worried that we'll regret not having it. Plus, I met with Duet and they made it a point to tell me that they do not use that BIG LIGHT that I just hate to see when I'm at a wedding. But, I hadn't even asked, so I thought it was a good sign that they offered that information.
What does everyone think?

Do the video. Go with a basic version, that way you won't spend so much, but you will get to have a video.

I agree w/the majority. Video will help you capture everything you missed. I am so happy watching my video and seeing everything.
My videographer (Wild Rose) was not obtrusive at all, I barely noticed him at all.
I watch my video constantly, it's the best memory I could ask for.

Re: To Video or Not to Video, that is the question??
I don't remember anything about my wedding because it went so fast, pictures are great, but without the video and sound I would have nothing. A good videographer is not intrusive at all. As a matter of fact, I was worried because I think I only saw him 2 times the whole day and thought he was slacking off somewhere in the corner.

Our friend of ours got married and she did not have a video and then when she came over to us we said how beautiful the ceremony was and she started to cry and said she wished she had it on video because it went by so fast and she was so nervous that she did not pay attention to most of it.

if it is within your budget...I would say yes. even if you don't want a fancy video, you can always just get the raw footage.

Although I had a bad experience with my video guy, I still recommend that you get it. For me it was well worth it. I was able to watch so many things that I had missed. Also, my grandmother passed away a few months after my wedding and I Thank God that I'm able to have her on my wedding video.

Re: To Video or Not to Video, that is the question??
We did not hire a video person for our wedding...mainly because we ran out of money and it was at the bottom of our list and my husband didn't want someone following him around all day.
What I did do is have my cousin tape us with our video camera and it came out awesome. Just as good as any professional video I've seen without the special extras and add ons of course.
I have watched the video at least 20 times already and I'm so glad I have that to relive my day.
If you can't afford to hire a professional, try to get someone to tape for you. It is definately worth it!!

VIDEO--I think that it is such a great thing that we are getting married in time that we can actually record it. We watch my sisters video every year around her anniversary. I would have loved to have seen my parents get married back in 1963!!!! I vote VIDEO all the way.

Re: To Video or Not to Video, that is the question??
I was the last of four kids to get married. My two sisters did not do a video-just a photographer. My brother got married a year before me and they decided to do a video. My husband and I were undecided as to whether or not we wanted to spend the extra $1200 on a video or not. Well we saw my brother's video and decided to go ahead and do it. It was the best $1,200 we spent. I love our video and cannot image not having one. My husband and I sat down with a bottle of wine to watch the video together and we both loved it. Although he hasn't watched the video in a while, I have watched it some many times I have lost count. I am going to try to start a tradition of the two of us watching it once a year on our anniversary. In terms of the video guy being intrusive, no one including the guests even noticed he was there. The only thing some people complained about was when the video guy put them on the spot to ask them to say something to the couple (the only people that complained about this was my husband's father and his wife - which they always have something to complain about so I didn't take it too much to heart.)

VIDEO!! definately. it is worth the money. We went to check out a videographer and they showed us a sample. I cried watching it and I didnt even know the couple.
My friend got married and had a video. Her brother in law is on it who was a fireman killed on 911. She was so happy that she had that last image of him to remember him by.
You donthave to go crazy with the price. Many places just have a basic package. I feel it is something you will have forever.

we're still trying to determine the same thing. I think we're leaning towards just trying to find a real basic, simple package. I definitely want the ceremony taped if not the whole party.

we are not having a videographer. FH thinks the same that yours does, and it is not on my list of important things so I let it go. It is too much money, for something I don't really care for. i think it depends on what you want.

We did not have a video and I am not regretful at all. Honestly- it wasn't about not watching it later on, and it wasn't about the money, it was about no matter how unintrusive a videographer is, they are still pretty intrusive.
My entire wedding was lit by candles, and any type of videography would have thrown that off.
Even at weddings I've attended with unintrusive videographers, I was still very very conscious of them constantly hovering over the dance floor, the tables, etc-
I just really didn't want to go there.

Re: To Video or Not to Video, that is the question??
I have two friends who were very against videos before they got married - but now two and three years after their weddings they are very upset that they didn't get the video (one especially because her photographer didn't get a lot of photos she wanted so she was very upset that she lost a couple of things that were very important to her)
JMO but I think a video is important even if it is NOT professional - from what all the girls on here say the day flies by and you miss so much - you can only capture what you missed on that videotape

DEFINATELY YES!!!!! We weren't going to get one either but then we decided to. We can't WAIT to get the video back b/c there is so much that we missed You may regret it if you don't, if your FH doesn't like it he shouldn't watch it but at least you'll have it.

my FI and I were not going to get a video, but then my mom insisted. she made some valid points. The bride won't see anyone walking down the aisle. ie parents, bridesmaids, maid of honor. nor will she see the guests arriving. It may be nice to have for the ceremony so that you can remember it. The day will go so quickly I am told, and most people say that it was great to watch it.

I do not like video, but I did have one.
It is not profressional, but I am glad I have one. So maybe if you are strapped for cash- do that.

Re: To Video or Not to Video, that is the question??
I knew I wanted to have a video but I was concerned about it. I don't like people looking at me and thought I would be nervous and awkward. DH is very similar. We had Bill from Wild Rose and I honestly never knew where he was. I look at the raw footage and I'm amazed at the shots that he was able to get. There is literally one moment when I look right at him and really notice the camera. The photographer was way more in my face. It really is so wonderful to watch your day on video and relive the moments. Also, as others have said-there are family members that won't be here much longer and it is so precious to be able to see them. I would suggest at least an amateur video just so you can have the important moments. Just keep in mind the amateur will probably be so much more obvious to you and your guests than a professional.
