Toasts/Speeches

Ladies:

Are you having an open forum at the reception where people other than BM/ husband or yourself will make impromptu toasts?

Fh wants to allow people to do this.

I think not, I am afraid people will go overboard.

You could get some drunken friend or relative giving away alittle TOO much information!!

NO open forum for toasts at my reception!!!

Just the Best Man and MOH (only because she asked me if she could)

I think that open toasts are appropriate for a rehearsal dinner, not the wedding. It could get very, very boring for all the guests!

I'm not sure to work mine either. I have 2 best men and 2 Maid of Honors. Any suggestions?

I also have 2 Best Men & 2 MOHs. My FI seems to think that both the best men will want to toast (one is more the smart ass type, the other is more the sappy type) and I told my MOHs they can decide to or not. I think they plan on writing one together and only one will actually say it (the other is really phobic about speaking in public - like me!)
On the same topic- who else is supposed to say something traditionally? Does the FOB & FOG? What about us - the bride and groom, are we supposed to thank everyone for coming and our families or something?

We're planning on thanking everyone for sharing in our day, at the beginning of the reception (after obligatory dances)...We're having 2 BM & 2 MOH. I spoke at my sister's wedding (I was the MOH) so I assume she'll want to speak at mine. Not too sure about the other MOH - both BM will speak as well.

Re: Toasts/Speeches

I went to a wedding in Ireland where the BM and MOH made 'toasts' and said a few nice words. On top of them, the couple had the dj ask if anyone else would like to come up and say a few words. About 6 people got up and it was the nicest thing I'd ever seen. It was a nice way to keep everyone entertained during dinner too.

I've asked a few people to say something, but I'll be telling the dj when to call them up- during the dinner. I didn't want an 'open mic' situation.

I would be careful with an open forum for speeches. Our best man, my dad & my brother spoke at our wedding.
