Too big a gap?

Too big a gap?

So right now my ceremony at the church is at 1 and my CH starts at 6. The church and the RH are 20-30 minutes away from eachother. Is this too big a gap? Should I move my ceremony to 1:30 or 2?

Are you doing a full mass? If it'll be over by 2 I might change it just a little. That being said if I was a guest I wouldn't mind.

It's a little bit of a long gap, I've been to weddings where there is a solid 3 hours and if you don't have a hotel and there's no where to go you just don't know what to do with yourself.

If you are able to change the ceremony a littel later I would. If you are not able to I would not stress about it. Maybe have a relative that is close but will not be at pictures host a little cocktail hour.

If that is not a possibility maybe include a list of things in the area to the OOT bags so that people who are not local have something to do to take up some time.

No full mass because FH is Catholic and I'm not. I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Maybe i'll switch to 2?

Mara: do you think if I did the mini cocktail hour people would think there was too much food? Would they eat less at the actual cocktail hour?

That definitely seems like a wide gap if it's not a full mass. I would switch the ceremony time if you are able to!

Being that their is such a large gap, I think not as many people will go to the ceremony...If you are OK with then, then I would leave it as is

I have been to a wedding and they had this at the house. It was great. You do not need much food... Maybe just some cheese and crackers and wine and soda. It is more so that people who do not live local and can not go home in between have somewhere to stay.

do you have alot of guests that are traveling?

there is a bit of gap, but if everyone is local they could at least go home and relax for a bit and maybe then get changed into their dresses and suites.

No I definitely want people there. Should I go to 2:30 or 3? I don't want to miss my CH or the sunlight for pictures.

I know my photographer said that he wantst 3 hours for pictures. Maybe call your photographer and see how long they want between the ceremony and the cocktail hour and figure it out from there!

By the way the sunlight should not be a problem at all. I had looked at the time of sundown for my date which is a week later than you and it is not earlier than 7 (I had to look at it because I am not getting married until 6:30 and I want an outside ceremony!

I don't think it's too big of a gap. Our church is at 2 (full mass) and cocktail greeting begins at 6:30pm but guests can arrive as early as 6. The hall and church are 35mins from eachother and we're getting married on a Friday night so you also have to account for traffic. You also want time for pictures too!

Oh and this might sound mean but I feel like if you don't come to the church then I don't want you at the RH. My wedding is the church cermony and everything else is just a party. But that's just my honest opinion lol.

You don't sound mean, its honest people are there to celebrate your Wedding but they wouldn't go to the actual wedding. I understand if its a timing thing like a Friday ceremony and you cant take off from work or travel but to have no excuse and just say 'I'm not going' seems a bit rude

I am having the same problem since my ceremony is at 2:30 and my reception begins at 7:00pm. I am probably going to do a mini cocktail hour . I was thinking of just having coffee and water and little snacks because ppl are probably going to snack anyway.

I have a gap too ( 4 hours). The issue i found was taht the limos & photogrpaher cost more bc they are on a per/hour basis. however, it also leaves us lots of time to take pictures at a different location.. In the end, we are leaving the gap :)

I would move the ceremony...if you move it to 2, you should be done by 245 lets say, then you get to the RH by like 315ish and then you still have 3 hours for pics! I think otherwise that gap is kind of long and ppl will prob skip the ceremony if they are from OOT. Perhaps do as Mara suggested and ask a family member to make their home open to visiting guests so they have somewhere to go? HTH!
