We are going there too but still deciding what we want to do and want to start shoping around for the right agent.

We're not using a TA for two reasons - 1) I'm a HUGEEEEEEEE lover of vacation planning and don't mind doing the research myself; 2) We are using FH's parents' timeshare for portions of the trip, so we really don't need a TA for hotels.

Anyway, though, here is our itinerary:

Depart JFK for Vegas 8/30/08 - Spend one night in Vegas at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino
Depart Vegas for Oahu 8/31/08 - Arrive in Oahu, stay at Hilton Hawaiian Village until 9/4/08
Depart Oahu 9/4/08 - Arrive in Maui, stay at Grand Wailea until 9/8/08
Depart Maui 9/8/08 - Arrive in Kauai, stay at Lawai Beach Resort until 9/12/08
Depart Kauai 9/12/08 - Arrive in Oahu, stay one last night
Depart Oahu 9/13/08 - Layover at LAX for 2 hours - Depart LAX for JFK

Also - I worked out some crazy plan to get first class tix the whole way - let me know if you want my ELABORATE scheme!

Very nice. We are planning two nights in vegas on the way out and one night in Nappa on the way back!

Here is the very elaborate plan that is already underway:

The way we researched it, we could do our round trip in coach for around $1700 for both of us. If we got our ideal flights and then bumped them all to first class, we'd have to pay over $5k total for both of us, which we just can't afford, SO...

FH and I BOTH opened Hawaiian Airlines credit cards. Not for the purpose of charging the tickets - we have the $ for our coach tickets. We opened because, with each one we get 20,000 bonus miles for making one purpose. AND we get a certificate for 50% off one coach round trip 'companion ticket.' SO - we will use the certificate and buy two coach tickets - one at half off. THEN we will use all the bonus miles we got and bump the tickets into first class. I already called Hawaiian Air and confirmed this all. So, in the end - we are getting TWO round trip first class tickets for the price of 1.5 coach tickets.

That covers our trip from Vegas to Oahu and Oahu back to LAX (considered multi-destination round trip).

Then, we are flying Delta from JFK to Vegas, and from LAX back to JFK (again, considered multi-destination round trip). Guess what we did for those tickets? Exact same thing - we each opened a Delta Amex, got 20,000 bonus miles each and are bumping our coach tix to first class for nothing.

And then guess what we're doing? So sorry CC companies, we're closing our cards because we don't need 'em!

MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! That seems like a great scheme. I am going to look into that. I have my agents license and we have an agency right in my office so I hoping they can get me some deals but I am definately going to take some of this advise!
