Too Hot For Formal?

Too Hot For Formal?

Originally I envisioned a formal winter wedding on a Friday ngiht with apple cider & a fireplace going. FH's only request was a summer wedding. Ok, done. So now I'm booked for 07/02/09. My question is will it be too hot to have my guests wearing formal attire? The ceremony & CH are supposed to be outside starting at 6:30 pm. Thoughts?

It's tough to have a formal wedding when most things are outdoors, no matter the time of year. Personally, I think it's too hot.

maybe? Not for the women as much as the men. tuxes could be rather warm if it's humid.... although the evening slot helps out the situation greatly... you don't have to worry about intense sun...

I dunno! some help I am!

I agree...but I would leave that choice up to my guests. My ceremony is in a garden then we're going into a hall..One of my cousins asked me if she could wear a long gown. I told her that ..It may be too hot for long gowns, but if she wanted to wear it that was fine. If I were you I would suggest it to the guests, but still plan everything as if it were formal besides, the weather is always unpredictable.

Thanks for the advice ladies. I'll put 'Black-tie Optional' on the invite so it's up to the guests. I felt bad asking people to wear formal if the weather turned out to be a heatwave like last summer. Not so much the women (we can make it work in any weather) but more so for men in tuxes. I feel much better!

I got married 7/2/04 outside. We had fans for the guests. The men still wore suits. It was hot but the ceremony was quick.

about an hour later the sky opened up and it was a torrential down pour but then cleared up. Talk about unpredictable.

I wouldn't ask for black tie- formal is okay, but my moh's wedding was outside in Aug and was black tie- everyone was dying of heat! it was very uncomfortable...on the other hand, it looked awesome!

It may be too hot for tuxes but then again people can wear a light suit or something of that sort, bec having an outside ceremony will be soo nice. In the summer WM offers iced tea or lemonade and if you still want to incorporate the fireplace you can have them put buring pillar candles in the fireplaces, I saw that before it looks so nice, this way you can have what you wanted

Well black tie might be too much BUT men can wear lightweight summer suits-diff fabrics with ties and it still looks really polished and put together. If you put your BMs for example, in tea length dresses and pearls, it looks very summery and very posh. Think England! hehe.

You can offer paper fans and parasols for the guests if the wedding is outdoors and I like the candle idea someone suggested.

I think it will be fine, leave it up to the guest, they can dress formal, yet wear lighter style clothes....

I'm going to a wedding in July that's black tie. Both ceremony and reception are in Manhattan ballroom so we won't be outside much. I think you can do it.
