today I went on a quest to find myself nice luggage for my honeymoon. I went to Macys and found the coolest luggage, its Diane von Furstenberg, I love it cos its hot pink! I got a $1000 worth of luggage for $500 (it was close out), I got a small roller, and a big roller plus a garment bag. Now I dont usally spend this much, so it was a bit scary. So in the car I started to feel guilty, so I called FH and told him what I had done.....well FH flipped out! He cant believe I spent so much on luggage....we got in this big conversation and I ended up in tears and he feels really bad but he cant jusifed it. So tommorrow I am taking the sad walk into Macy's and returning it :( Part of me says return it, and part of me says its so cool! and so well made keep it! I dunno what to do...

In my mind $500 sounds like alot, but I haven't bought any luggage lately to compare.

Re: too much for luggage?
500 isnt bad for luggage, but that is if it is a 4 piece set. from what i can tell you only got 3 pieces. good luggage is a good thing to have, especially if you travel alot like i do. i can only tell you how many cheap pieces i have bought (usually it is one big piece for 30 that was on sale) that have fallen apart. and i fly all over the place.

Re: too much for luggage?
I just got DVF luggage from my registry and I love it. $500 is not a lot at all for the luggage -luggage is a necessity and an investment, and I think you got a good deal!!!!

I dont think $500 is alot for what you got. We bought a garment bag alone for $250 from Macys. But since some of the girls are saying you can find a better deal elsewhere, Id look into it.

A $1K worth of luggage for $500 is definitely worth it! Look at the big picture!

Re: too much for luggage?
I say check out TJ Maxx! Otherwise, this pink set is ony $99 at BB&B! Y not register for the good stuff?
My only issue with spending a lot of $$ on luggage is simply, when you travel, someone else is handling your bags....in most cases not with the same care as you would.
I have had too many bags come out of baggage claim with unremovable dirt, rips, and handle breaks to ever merit spending good money on a bag, but that's just me.

Re: too much for luggage?
The only thing I would say is that, $500 is alot, but worth it for a good set of luggage. The problem is, the color you picked. I am sure you want this luggage to last at least 5 years, depending on how much you travel. Are you 100% with hot pink luggage. Are you going to like it next year. I am sure it is really cute, but I am just trying to help. If you love it, keep it!

Re: too much for luggage?
i definitely second the tj maxx and marshalls idea too, i have seen Diane's stuff there myself and i know it is a lot cheaper. but to be honest about the macy's incident, i don't think it is a lot for luggage considering at COSTCO (which is usually a lot less than dept stores) my mom and dad spent about 400 dollars on the new samsonite luggage with the four wheels that roll in all directions. they gave that to me and my FH for x-mas this year. in the set there are four pieces total-- a large roller bag, two mediums, and one make-up/bathroom stuff carrying case that's all lined so your stuff stays all seperate and nice! i love it! lol but the point is, that was like 400 in costco so for a designer name--at least you got a big sale, i don't think you did that bad...plus, it's macys. and guys will flip out over prices no matter how good or bad the prices are! they think everything is expensive! my FH and i went bowling the other night- BOWLING! and he flipped out because it was 17 dollars to rent four pairs of shoes, LOL and then 40 bucks to play 2 games with four people haha. go figure!! i def think that was expensive to bowl too but am i going to go nuts over it? nah, but that's men, i love them for it!

Re: too much for luggage?
$500 is not bad if the quality is great. I guess it depends on how often you travel. I travel a lot for work and there are few luggage companies that make sturdy enough luggage to handle the 50,000+ miles I travel per yer to justify spending that much. But for leisure travel, that should last you a while.
My question is - does DSV - make good luggage, or good looking luggage? If TJ Maxx has it on sale, I would got that option. But it sounds like since your luggage was closeout so you can't return it? If not, then enjoy it...I'm sure they're beautiful.

I have that luggage! I LOVE it - FH hates using it though - He said he can only use it if I am clearly WITH him so no one thinks it is his

The Marshalls in Oceanside just had DVF luggage on Saturday too (a bunch of sets!)! I was in there looking for luggage for my mom and saw it. They also have Samsonite there as well which is really good luggage also.
I know how it is feeling guilty about a purchase...especially when you start to think 'well I do have a wedding coming up..maybe I shouldn't spend the money' But since it IS for your honeymoon and you got a deal on it I would have bought it too since you can always use the luggage! I can rationalize ANY purchase...I think I have a shopping issue! Anyway, my FH is the same way...he freaks when he thinks I spent too much on something (and as much as I hate to admit this...he is usually right!) but sometimes you just have to splurge on yourself!
I would take a look at the TJ and the Marshalls in Oceanside if you live close enough. If not I would try any Marshalls or TJ by you (I've seen nice luggage at other locations as well). I know it is kind of hit or miss there but I have gotten some GREAT deals on stuff that I was this close to paying full price for elsewhere!

Re: too much for luggage?
Oh, girlie! Are you having a bridal shower? Your friends/family could be surprising you with one! I'm the youngest in my family. 4 of us are girls, & I'm the youngest, so I KNOW THERE'S A SHOWER IN THE WORKS!!! You probably will be getting luggage as a gift.
But, you know what? Luggage is always good to have. When we have to pack up our summer clothes, we put it all in our suitcases/garment bags. We don't have that much storage space, so it really saves on clutter. Just try & tell your FH that it still was a good deal. Good luck!
