Hey ladies, I need your opinion. I am debating whether or not I should have my goddaughter in my wedding. Disclaimer: We are NOT close at all. She is my cousin's daughter and because I live in a different state, she doesn't know me and is shy around me.
That being said, she is eight years old and will be almost nine on the day of the wedding. Is that too old for a flower girl?
I do not want to go the route of a junior bridesmaid. I think, first of all, she is too young for that. Second, I selected my four bridesmaids for very specific reasons - each of them hold a very special spot in my heart. My FH has 6 groomsmen and I could not add 2 more BM to the group because I felt it would dilute the meaning of the BM for me.
So it would be flower girl or nothing for the little one! What do you think?

Re: Too old to be a flower girl?
I am in the very same position except this girl was supposed to be my goddaughter and family bs changed things. She will be entering 4th grade in September and I get married in July so she will be 9 and be 10 by the December following the wedding. I am not having her be a flower girl and refuse the junior bridesmaid idea for the same reason as you. It isn't about love or about family to me, even though it seems to be to others...it is about the fact that her age just isn't right...if she was 4-5 years younger there would be no question. In fact she will be the ONLY child at the reception so that should be good enough in my head...I agree with you...no to either

I don't think she's too old - my flower girl had just turned 9 a week before our wedding and I think it was fine. She is also my cousin's daughter, but not my Goddaughter. My cousin was one of my BMs. I think if you want to have her as a FG that would be great - and it could help develop a closer relationship with her, if that's something you would want.

Sounds likes you already know the answer...you're talking yourself out of having her be a flower girl. Stick with your gut and go with no

I think it's too old. She would probably be embarrassed to be a FG at that age.

I say pass on the flower girl. If it wasn't for my FH having a younger niece, she'll be six by the time the wedding rolls around - we wouldn't have one. She will be the only child at the wedding.

Re: Too old to be a flower girl?
My opinion is no, not because I think she's too old, but because you said you are not close and she is shy around you. I am all about having people that are important to me and feel that I am important to them involved in our wedding. Unless you really want a FG and she is your only option, I would say don't put her in just because.

Who's gonna judge how old she is and if thats an appropriate age. Do what you wanna do, but I personally wouldn't get caught up on titles... I have a 3 little girls and none of them are throwing petals, they are all carrying mini bm bouquets and wearing the same dress, my 'flower girls' dresses aren't white though.

Re: Too old to be a flower girl?
The age really does NOT matter. The title is Flower GIRL not Flower Toddler I think that her age is perfect because younger children are unpredictable and may or may not walk down the aisle and perform (for lack of a better word) as you would like. The real question is whether you want a Flower Girl at all. If not, then don't, but I do think if you want to get a little closer to your god daughter/2nd cousin this would be a great opportunity to do so. Good Luck!

Re: Too old to be a flower girl?
Thanks girls. I think I will have her, mostly because it's important to my mom, and it doesn't really make a difference to me.
How would she be my 'something blue?'
I may not put her in a white dress, I like the idea of flower girls in a colored dress. Call me crazy, but I want to be the only one wearing white that day. :)

I don't think the age is too old for a flower girl.
If you want her to be your something blue then just put her in a blue dress! lol

Yeah, I don't like the idea of inserting a flower girl just for the sake of having one. We have the same issue, and we are just omitting the FG altogether.

Re: Too old to be a flower girl?
Were not having a flower girl but my ring bearers are going to be 7 and 9. I wouldn't worry about the age but if you want her to be the flower girl then do it.
