Hi everyone...this is my very first post!! I just got engaged and I have NO idea what planning a wedding entails...I am the first girl in my family to be getting married! Anyhoo, a few people have asked me where I'm registered, but i thought since the wedding isn't going to be until '09 that we weren't supposed to register for a while...like until next year. Should i do it sooner than that, is there any rule stating when you are supposed to? Like i said i know NOTHING, and Im sure I will be asking many more questions in the future! Thanks for any help in advance!

Welcome and CONGRATS! Start anywhere u want to start. I am the first girl in my family to get married matter fact I'm the first in my family to have a wedding.
I'm starting with my Hall thats usually the biggest and most costly thing
ASK as many questions as u want no matter what!

We reigstered for a few things before our engagement party (because my future mother in law made us...)
We wanted to wait to register until closer to the shower/wedding. I think you can register whenever you would like!

As far as registering, I've heard that if you register too early the biggest issue is that things get discontinued so you have to update it a lot. I don't plan on registering until about 6 months before the wedding.

Thanks for the responses and the Congrats!! I was thinking the same thing, about items being discontinued and not available anymore. I will probably end up waiting like you. Thanks!

I dont think its too soon to register. We had lots of people asking us where we were registered so they could get us something, so we registered like 5 or 6 months after getting engaged. We also had our engagement party last sat so it was great b/c we got a lot of gifts from our registry. And you dont have to do a full registry, register for a few things if you want, The great thing is, you can always add on as you want

first off congrats and welcome to the addiction. Second it is too soon to reg becuz then go out of style and also they get discont. So im going to wait intil like a year b4 then do it. HTH

Welcome and congrats... I would only register now if you expect to receive things off the registry for your engagment party... but, its completely up to you

i registered a while ago, but nothing has been purchased.... my mom was begging me to register because her friends in florida wanted to get us stuff from it, but it never happened lol.
we're going in a few weeks to update all the lists because obvi more products have come out.

I WOULD REGISTER 6 MONTHS BEFORE MY BRIDAL SHOWER ALOT OF THINGS GET DICONTUINED. IF YOU REGISTER TO EARLY.

I registered for a few basic things now (pots, kitchen utensils, bakeware, etc) b/c we are having an engagement party and people were asking where I am registered. I wasn't planning on registering until it was time for the bridal shower but if you're having an engagement party, you can't expect every guest to give cash. If you are not planning on having an engagement party, I think it would be better to wait until about 6 months before.
If you do decide to register now, try not to put anything on it that is part of a set (like plates)...if you only get some of the set now there is the chance that it won't be available around the time of your wedding. Then you won't have a complete set and probably wouldn't want to use the pieces you do have.

We didn't register until after our engagement party and some people gave gifts but most gave us cash. We did create a registry early on though because since FH and I didn't live together, we need everything so we referred people to our registry for our Christmas and birthday gifts. It's helped us get a lot of the basics so far. You can register for appliances and kitchen gadgets early, but wait on linens for bed and bath because they get discontinued seasonally.
