Re: Too young for marriage?

it's all relative right? some 22 year olds are super mature and some 35 year olds still act like they are 12. so it's just a number; it doesn't really matter

Re: Too young for marriage?

Both me and FH are 23... I've never really gotten crap from anyone, but if I did i'd probably just tell them to shut up and mind their own business, lol.

No but seriously... we're both finishing school in May, we want to start our lives together, we know we belong together, we would live together anyways, we love each other, why should we wait because of a number? It's stupid!

Re: Too young for marriage?

I think alot of older women who are divorced now that were young brides may look back and think they rushed into things or were too young to know what they really wanted at the time they got married. I think they could be bitter, or they could just be wanting to prevent someone from making the same mistakes they feel they made.

I know I wasn't ready to get married at 22, but then again every person is different. I think that it is a very personal decision, and no one really has the right to base their judgement solely on someone's age. I know growing up I always said I didn't want to be married before I was 30, but here I am getting married at 27. And FH and I have been together almost 5 years. To be quite honest, I would have said yes to marrying him at any point along the way. You never know at what point in your life 'the one' is going to come along, so whatever age it happens at, it happens.

I think its not so much the age, but just that people really need to give a lot of thought to marriage before they go through with it and not just get caught up in the excitement of the wedding day itself, but the reality that it is meant to be a committment for your whole life. It depends more on your relationship and communication than your age. And whether or not you can handle real life situations with each other, not just the head in the clouds in love phase.

I am 24 and I also get this comment often . Once I got it so many times from someone who didn't know me and I turned around ans said, ' If my parents approve then that's all that matters to me.' In a nice way I was trying to tell her to shut the hell up. Half the time the people who say this to me don't even knoe me well enough to ask me about my life or have an opinion. AHHHHH very annoying

I am 21 My boss once told me that why I didn't move in with FH (in that time boyfriend), I avoid the question because that is not of his business. A month after that I got engaged and I told him and he say 1st that he think that I was too young to get married because I can have a bright future. I got so angry inside me because what he means that I am not to young to move in with my boyfriend but too young to get married rrrrrgggg people can be so disrespectful

Crashing here cuz Im bored BUT only you know when you are truly ready both emotionally and financially be that 19 or 59. I have to say though that being back east on LI, a lot of people think that early-mid 20s is so young to get married, but once I moved to the west coast, I am the freak who is 27 and not married yet. Most of my friends out here were married by the time they graduated from college at 22, so it has a lot to do with the LI culture too. But if youre ready, then why wait? Its like that line from When Harry Met Sally: 'When you find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible'

Re: Too young for marriage?

I think it just depends on the person. You know whether you're ready or not. Some people are ready at 21 and others aren't.
I know for me when I was 24, I was living my life and enjoying it. I didn't want marriage or kids. Nor did i dream about it. SO when friends did get married I was very happy for them because that's what they wanted, but couldn't relate to them because I wasn't at that phase in my life. I could not have imagined getting married 'that young' because of where I was in my life and what I wanted to accomplish for me.

So I say, if you're ready then go for it and don't let other people get to you. It's not worth it. You're at a great time in your life. You're planning to marry your soulmate, enjoy it.

I was born and raised in California and when I moved to New York I noticed an 'older crowd' and I mean mid late 20's and 30's crowd. I see New York as a young (ages said before) professional place, where you're 30's is your prime here. While in Cali. 20's are your prime and you should be married cause that's what everyone does. I don't think it's just long island culture to wait out here I think it's all over NYC, people wait longer for professional reasons, etc (not that there aren't people who get married young out here) .

People always say 'Youre so young' to me until they find out my age. I guess I look really young but it is annoying. Back in the day you were considered an old maid if you werent married by 20.
