I agree, you're not getting married until 2006, don't worry about inviting them to anything right now. Take this time to think things over so you don't say something you may regret

I wasn't in your exact situation but I have divorced parents who are not friendly - I always chose my words carefully but still let it be known that it was my day...

Good luck!

I've had a huge fight with my brother in which he was extremely, cruel, selfish, and manipulative. I am not speaking to him now and I believe I need time away from him before I can deal with this situation rationally. I do not want to invite him and his wife to my wedding or any showers becuase I want no contact with them, etc.

Did any of you go through a similar situation, how did you deal with when it came to invites, parents, explanations etc??

dont worry about this now. you have some planning to do. by then they may be on a different planet. oh wait they already are!!!

Set the date and place already
you are more important then he is anyway.
you are theand and he is just
whatever.

i was in a similar situation, but it was with his brother and his sister-in-law. we haven't really spoken to them in over a year due to major differences. they have been pretty terrible to us...long story though. anyway, i had spoken to his mother and told her i didn't want his sister-in-law at my shower....but that she needed to do what she had to do to save face for the family. his sister-in-law was invited and very rudely declined to my maid of honor. despite the fact that 2 years ago my husband was his brother's best man, since they were always the best of friends, for our wedding, he was not even asked to participate and clearly did not want to (since we have never even been told congratulations by either of them). for the wedding, they were invited (again to save face for his parents, who this whole thing is hurting so much), they came to the church (which was a surprise), sat in the second to last pew, wore casual clothing, and sat on my side, talking and laughing throughout.they did not go on the receiving line, and said nothing to me the entire day. the only reason that his brother congratulated him was bc his mother called him over when she was talking to the two of them. nice, right?!!? they wouldn't take a family picture, so there is no complete family picture for his mom.
they are the two most selfish people i have ever met. they have been so nasty through everything. my husband has tried to reconcile and nothing is given in return (and none of this was even our fault to begin with).
anyway, sorry for the long winded explanation....bottom line is this.....you have time, so think about everything before you make any decisions, it's your brother. you don't want to look back and think you never even gave it a shot. things could change, and even if they don't, you can always be the bigger person, invite them to everything, and if they don't come, then it's their decision and they have to deal with it. life is just too short. don't let it ruin your time though, bc it's about you and your FH, not about them. i think it had to have been more terrible for them to have to see how happy we were that day, then it was for me to know they were there. honestly, i didn't even think about them after i first saw them.
good luck with everything!! i'm sure it will work out!!!
