ithink it depends. we told one of the guys pretty late- march I think, for an October wedding. ( jsut coudln't get in touch) We had a short engament so we told the others as soon as we were certain, which was December/January. We announced our engagement at Thanksgiving.
Why were you jsut asked to be in somebody's wedding?
I think 4- 6months should be the minimum, b/c dresses take a while.

I'm not sure if there is a 'set' amount of time. It depends on the individual situations. My best friend from college was with her boyfriend (now husband) for 7 years. They got engaged and planned a wedding for 3 months later, out of state. That was a little tight, timing-wise, but we were all able to order our dresses, make travel arrangments, etc, etc. and the wedding was awesome. If someone needs time to save up for the travel, dress, or whatever, it's a different story. Again, I guess it depends a lot on individual situations. Sorry, not that helpful....

If they're having a 'normal' engagement, a year or so, they should ask you soon after they start planning. If they're having a short engagement, you'll obviously get less notice.
