Topic of the Day:Did your relationship w/Mom improve because of baby?
Good Morning America is talking to the editor of Baby Talk magazine about this issue. 70% said that their relationship with their Moms improved after the baby came.
A majority also said that grandma spoiling is a major issue between the Mom and Grandma and that the Moms think it is too much. Does Grandma spoil too much? It isn't just about gifts but also about allow lots of treats, behavior etc...
Many of the new Moms felt that their Moms gave toooo many opinions. Many of the new Moms took the 'advise' as criticisms, even though the grandma's didn't mean it like that. But OUR moms did some things differently and they have their way of doing things, which might not be YOUR way. How do you handle that?
I thought this would be an interesting topic for us to discuss.

oh boy - mom talk! well michele I'll give it a shot!
My mom and I have a 'she thinks we are close, I know we are kind of not' relationship now. She lives 6 hours away now, and it makes me sad to think she won't be around for my children the way she was for my sister's four kids. I must say she is a GREAT grandmother to them. In my opinion. She really encourages their creativity, she teaches them all about gardens and planting, watches all the old black and white movies with them (which they LOVE now), and of course they get tons of ice-cream and mallomars, scary movies and bare feet in the mud! My sister and she have become a lot closer but my sister does set boundaries...and now and then my mom ignores them which makes my sister nuts. I can't really say for my own situation, but I know in theirs it's a push/pull sometimes, but for the most part, a better relationship has grown as a result.

My Mother passed away 5 years ago. It did make me miss her a whole lot more. We were VERY close.
I do call my oldest Sister alot. Asking any questions I have. She knows that if our Mom was here it would be her I was asking. But it still makes her feel special!!

My Mom and I have always been close. Even when I was a teenager, I always considered my Mom one of my best friends, I guess b/c I did not have a sister. Now we are extremely close...we talk everyday, sometimes more than once a day. But, the baby did not bring us closer. Me moving 3,000 miles away brought us closer than we have ever been before.
And I have to say, my Mom LOVES to spend time w/Paul and care for him, but she is really good at not spoiling him (so far) in terms of too many treats, etc. She knows that I am very conscious of Paul's diet, so she always asks me if he can have something before she gives it to him.
As far as opinions, again my Mom is great about this stuff. She does not tell me how to raise my son. When she does make comments, she often tells me what a good Mom I am and how I am doing a great job raising a happy little boy. I am not saying my Mom is perfect, but with regard to these issues, she is very supportive of me and my hubby, and the choices that we make on our own.
