FH is in love with a watch that I would really like to buy for him for the wedding. Problem is, it is BRAND NEW model and nobody is carrying it except Torneau. I have found a watch store in California that has it as well, but of course then I can't physical see the store and know everything is reputable and OK before I go through with it.
Does anyone know if you can negotiate with Torneau? How easy is it and how much can you expect to get them down? The reason I ask is because they have marked this watch up over the MSRP, and the place in California has too, but MUCH less. It would cost me less to get it in CA, but I'd rather not. There is no way in h*ll that I'm paying the Torneau price as it stands now, though.

I got a watch in Torneau years ago and I think they were able to negotiate. Go to the one in Roosevelt Field and see what they say. It cant hurt. Good Luck

I also priced a Breitling watch for FH at Torneau.. I think they will negotiate slightly.. May I also mention... they do trade in's.. if you have a nice watch that you dont wear, or want to upgrade they will put it towards the price of the new one.
I was going to trade up my Baume & Mercier for another B&M with a diamond rimmed face, but I couldnt part with it. So, that is always an option.... HTH

if Torneau is willing to negotiate, maybe you can show them the CA price, and tell them you'll order from there if they can't give you a price you're willing to pay. if the bite, great. if not, there's more than one torneau to hit, or order it from CA, then go to a Torneau shop and compare. make sure you know the full details of the return policy if you order it from CA.

FH and I both got watches at the one in Roosevelt Field - and they gave us like 10% off or something like that. We worked with a guy named Harvey!!

Their price is ABSURDLY marked up - it is $1300 over MSRP. But, they are the ONLY people who have the watch right now. I contacted various other authorized dealers who said 'that watch is brand new and we don't have it yet, but we do have x, y, z.' OK, thanks for x, y and z but if only you knew my FH - he wants THIS WATCH. The one in CA is still marked up over the MSRP, but only by about $500.

Just wondering what store in CA, I happen to live in CA and if it's San Francisco, I wouldn't mind going for you to see if it's a respectable place.

Re: Torneau - Need Help
When I was in AC for my bach party my friend was pricing out a couple of watches at Tourneau and they gave her a pretty high price - when she was leaving, they called her back and asked what she wanted to spend... and she said give her their best price. They came down a little... but she was able to get a better price from a local jeweler. Did you try the Diamond District 47th St? Just a thought... there are so many retailers, they might have it! Fh has bought many watches from them. the difference, as i understand, is with the warranty. T guarantees that it's a real rolex (e.g.) with rolex parts and will repair i think for life for the ones we bought. when you go to some other watch stores they offer a guarantee through themselves for two years (e.g.) if they offer the guarantee through themselves you have to go back there to get it fixed. it might be a red flag because it should be also direct from the maker. the problem is you dont know what they are putting in your watch. ppl do a lot of shady things so i would def check them out and question about the warranty length, through whom, and who would do any repairs.
there are very honest jewelers out there who give amazing prices, just do your homework on them and it should be ok.
