Last weekend i went with one of my girls to try on bridesmaid dresses. The samples they had were a size 10. When she tried on the dress it was too small to zip, by like a good amount. They said she should order a 14. I'm ordering the dresses this tuesday and she wants me to order her a 10 because she says she's going to loose 20-40 pounds before the wedding... This is SO risky. We all know the rule that you could always take in a dress but if its too small your stuck. Were already cutting it really close with the dresses and right now it looks like they will be in 6 weeks before the wedding. If the dress comes in and its still too small theres no way to loose that much weight in 6 weeks!
I really think this is a terrible idea. I just don't want to hurt her feeling and tell her how riskey this is. I don't know what to do!! If the dress comes in and she can't fit into it then what do we do?
Do you think maybe i could just order the right size and tell her the dress shop messed up....I just SO don't wanna hurt her feelings. I know myself weight topics are SO touchy and i would NEVER want to hurt the feelings of my friend who i love so much.

Re: touchy bridesmaid issue...
Do yourself and her a favor and order her the right size!!!! So important...my sister ordered a size smaller thinking she was going to lose weight and of course didn't lose weight...she was stuck with a dress that didn't look good on her. If your bridesmaid loses weight then they can always take it in!

Oh wow this is def a hard choice that you have to make! I remember when I was in my brothers wedding party, the ladies at the dress place told everyone to order a size bigger, but we had a girl in the wedding party who refused to order a bigger size and swore she would lose weight before. My sister in law fought with her telling her she thinks a bigger size is the right choice is best because they can always take it. The girl fought with her, but finally she came to the realization that the my sister in law was right. I don't know what made her change her mind, but thank god she did! Turns out she girl never lost the weight, but she sure was glad she order a bigger dress! I said the same thing to my sister in law that I would lose the weight too, but I always had the thought in the back of my head 'WHAT IF' I don't lose it then I'm screwed! So maybe talk to her and just just be honest! My sister in law flat out told the girl I don't think your going to lose the weight. But I am sure you can do it in a nicer way! She is def putting you in a hard place right now and that's not fair to you.

I think you should order the correct size. People alway say they are going to lose weight and don't. I would never order something in 'hopes' that I would fit into it. I would just tell her you do not want her to stress over Having to lose weight

Re: touchy bridesmaid issue...
how do you think she would take it if you just explained to her that it's a lot of pressure to put on herself to lose a significant amount of weight, and just in case, she should order her current size? If you think it will be a struggle and she won't listen, then I guess go the route of ordering the larger size yourself. I feel like if you bring it up now and it doesn't influence her, she'll see right through the ruse and you'll have a bigger problem closer to the wedding of her knowing you did that behind her back.
It definitely depends on her personality, but I definitely agree with getting a larger size

I always think this is a terrible idea!!! I would definitely order her the right size. It is hard to shed 20-40 lbs in that short time frame. Maybe tell her that when you went to order, the store advised to order the correct size and not smaller.

Order her the right size and have them cut out the size before she sees it!!! muhahahaha
Honestly, though....we ALL know those dresses are not correct. She needs to get over it and get the right sized dress for her body. It's better to be in a bigger size that fits rather than look like a stuffed sausage.
Next size up!

Re: touchy bridesmaid issue...
Just order the right size. I explained to my BM's that it could always be taken in and that BM dress sizes are different. She might not even notice what the tag says and if anything just cut it.

I would order the size the store told you to order. If you order the smaller size like your friend said and it doesn't fit they will have to put a panel in her dress which will throw off the entire look and they may not be able to match the color perfectly. I personally wouldn't take that chance.
Good Luck!

I'm having the same problem and refuse to let anyone stress me out. Told her do what she wants and its on her.

Re: touchy bridesmaid issue...
omg - this EXACT situation happened to a friend of mine last year. it was her maid of honor who did it to her. the dresses she picked were actually being discontinued, so she stressed out even more about this! she actually bought a spare dress for her behind her back and kept it. figured if she needed to pull it out of hiding, she'd have it. in the end, it happened that this girl was kicked out of the wedding party for other reasons - so it 'worked' itself out. but my advice, if the dress isnt being discontinued, its up to her to have to pay for a replacement dress that fits. or, if it will really calm your nerves, buy a second one and keep it on the side for her, just in case.

Get the bigger size and a seam ripper and take out the tag. Tell her its a 10.

I would def order the size 14. I had a similar issue. Ordering the bigger size is the right way to go.

We're not talking 5-10 vanity lbs that she can loose in a few weeks....20-40 lbs is tough!
And, to lose that much weight in 5 months is going to make her resort to crash diets and an unhealthy lifstyle.
Order the bigger size. If she loses a ton of weight and it's too big, offer to help pay for alterations.

i agree with most of the other girls. just tell her they can take it in. She is in you BP, so i think she would know you are not looking to hurt her feelings. you are supportive of her weight loss goals and the number of her dress is not really important. Esp since you said you have had weight issues yourself, i'm sure she will understand.

Crashing - I think ordering it in the right size and paying for alterations IF she loses 40 lbs is PERFECT. Do it. It's YOUR day, YOUR pictures, etc. And like the other girls said, you could always pluck the size out.
