Tough FMIL Sitaution - Need Some Advice (Long-Sorry)
Ok ladies, this is a toughie and I'm hoping one of you wonderful ladies can provide some helpful advice. One of FHs GM is also friends with FMIL. Actually, the GM and his wife are friends with FMIL. But the GM is closer to FH. Well, apparently, the wife has been saying things to FMIL that exploded this past weekend. She questions everything FMIL does for our wedding, and even questioned why I am having a bridal shower since FH and I live together already. FMIL got very upset this weekend and called the GM tot talk to him about his wife and try to get it resolved. When he said he couldn't come over to talk because he had people over, FMIL said that's the problem, all he does is drink and all of his friends are drunks and she's sick of hearing it from his wife (the wife complains about this to FMIL a lot). The GM said some choice words and hung the phone up. I think both of them were wrong in this situation. Both called my FH after complaining about one another and FMIL got on the phone with me crying. She said she didn't want the GM and his wife invited to the rehearsal dinner. I offered to pay for their plates (since FMIL is paying for the RD) and she said her and FFIL won't come if they come. Now I'm trying to let things die down, but at least once a day FMIL brings up the situation and wants to know if the GM has said anything, making me feel like I'm in HS. Because FMIL is paying for the RD and the wedding, should I not invite the GM and his wife to the RD, just not invite his wife, or what? There's no talking to FMIL. She's complaining that this is supposed to be a happy time for her and the GMs wife ruined it, but hello, what about FH and I? This is ruining it for FH and I!

Holy Cow this is a new and disturbing scenario which I cannot even imagine!!! Geez are we planning weddings or Day Care?????? Sorry, minivent over :) OK well, they are ALLLLLLL being retarded IMHO, and at some point reason may kick in and they'll decide to play nice for you and FH. Or, they won't. But either way, you cannot DISinvite the GM & his wacky wife, that would be wrong. If ANYONE 'chooses' not to come and uses your RD as a proverbial boxing ring, that must be their choice, but you can't let FILs hurt feelings back you into the inappropriate action.
Geez maybe we should all hire Kofi Anan as our DOCs. What is WITH people!!!!!
HTH, but its a gross dilemma you should NOT be in the middle of sweetie!!!

IMO - and this is not meant to be rude AT ALL - your FH should *nicely* let your mom know exactly what you said - that this is not high school, you are going to be family, you are friends with the GM and his wife, and everyone is invited to the RD and the wedding. i know she is paying for it, which is very generous, and more than i can say at the moment for my FILs... but this is your wedding, and you get to say who comes and who doesn't - ESPECIALLY if they are in the BP.

you may also want to point out that if she and FFIL don't come because GM and wife are invited... then i am guessing the other guests will think she is being petty, and i am sure no one wants that to happen.

I would tell FMIL that the RD and wedding are about you and FH and everyone who was originaly invited is still invited. They all should love you both enough to put it aside for 2 days, becuase they are adults. Sometimes the people that are close to us also get stressed by the wedding. I would let it calm for a day or 2 and let FH handle it if he can, it is his friends and family. GL
