Tourist Ideas for Guests in Nassau County

I am planning from out of state and as a result anticipate many out of state guests. Does anyone have any recommendations of 'Things to Do in Nassau,' specifically for children. Thanks

Tourist Ideas for Guests in Nassau County

I have a few ideas...I would definitely suggest the Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay, especially if the weather will be nice. For children...There is a fish hatchery on Rte 25A in Cold Spring Harbor that I heard is fun for kids. Also, maybe Adventureland (an amusement park) in Farmingdale for the kids as far as something to entertain them (not sure if that is Nassau or W. Suffolk). I'll post again if I think of anything else.

Tourist Ideas for Guests in Nassau County

PS - There is a book called 'Where To Go and What To Do on Long Island' that might help you. I think it is about $5 and you can order it from any online bookstore. Good luck -

Check out LI Visitors and Convention Bureau

http://www.licvb.com/index.html This site is really helpful for some suggestions on the entire Island! Also, Nassau-specific sites include museums and mansions, but there's also beautiful gardens and parks, depending upon the time of year: Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Sagamore Hill Historical Site (Teddy Roosevelt's home) Coe Hall at The Planting Fields The Sands Point Preserve in Port Washington Old Westbury Gardens CW Post Campus Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum Old Bethpage Restoration Park Good luck!

Tourist Ideas - Shopping

I know when I visit a new place I like to check out the shopping. I'm sure if you have guests that have never been to LI that they could occupy themselves for at least a day shopping. Nassau county has just about every store you can think of including Roosevelt Field mall, Miracle Mile.

Need More Things for Children

I checked out the LI Visitors and Convention Bureau. Most of their entries relate to musuems, historic preservation, and similar activities. A number of my wedding guests are bringing ACTIVE children (ages 4 through 15) who won't appreciate most of these activities. Any other suggestions?

Check out Newsday.com

This is the URL for the Fun Book that Newsday produces. I find it to be a good reference of festivals, fairs, museums, etc. I use it alot in the spring thru fall when we are looking for something to do outdoors that is local. http://cf.newsday.com/funbook/funbook.cfm Offhand, I can think of the Long Island Children's Museum. Their URL is www.licm.org Also, isn't the Cradle of Aviation museum near Nassau Community College open now? Or it's opening soon? That might be fun for kids, especially boys.

What I did...

I ordered Long Island Magazine from the Visitors and Convention Bureau. They are free. I ordered about 20 and put them in my Welcome Bags for out of town guests.

stef28

Stef28, what else did you put in the welcome bags, and how did you get them to the visitors? Also, do you have any suggestions for how to go about finding the cheapest hotels around the Mt. Sinai area? Thanks in advance!
