town hall marriage- and destination weddings

hey guys im new!! I just got engaged yesterday!! :) I am so excited. I also found out a few days ago that I was pregnant. My FIANCE :) is a suffolk county cop and I am an RN and he has great benifits and I dont. We want the best for our baby so we want to get married at town hall and have a quick thing and not count it as our wedding. We dont want to say vowes or exchange rings since we have always planned on having a destination wedding with our family around.

we made an appointment for today at 5 to become married so that me and our baby can have everything we need throughout the pregnancy. While this isnt how I wanted to do it I have to put the baby first ..

so my question is has anyone else ever done this?how did the ceremony at town hall go? we are doing it at brookhaven if that helps. Im just nervous that this will take away from our big day...so I want it low key. we dont even want to dress up. so please tell me your expericances by 5 if possible lol

my next question is destination weddings. we are planning one for june of 09 since I want to loose the baby weight and I want alot of time for my friends and family to plan with me. we have been looking at the bahamas and while we love sandals I was wonderign what our other options are. we want to also have a reception there, somthing small with like 30-40 people and havent found anything. The only thing I have found is where you actually say your vowes.

ALSo hha sorry for so many questions. When we go to get married on the island how will they handle that since we will already be married? I dont want the rest of my family to know since I dont want it to take away from the specialness of the day

ok i think thats it for now...Id really like to see what u guys have to say :)

thanks so much
Jessie...soon to be Jessie Burns!!!! ahhh

Re: town hall marriage- and destination weddings

The only info I know is for NYC weddings at the clerk's office. Here in Manhattan you have to apply for a wedding/marriage license and then wait a minimum of 24 hours to return to be married (or be married elsewhere like a church, reception hall, etc).

Once the 24 hours are up, you can go back to city hall and get married there. Once you are called in (you have to wait in a waiting room and the wait time depends on how busy it is) the 'ceremony' itself will take anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute and a half.

Not joking.

I went to my brother's city hall wedding and a friend's city hall wedding. It is very quicky and you don't even have to exchange rings if you don't want to.

Not sure if it's the same on Long Island - GOOD LUCK! Congratulations on your baby and your engagement - and your upcoming weddings!!!
