Townhouses?

Townhouses?

FH and I really don't want to pay rent anymore, because it's just money out the window. We would rather pay monthly towards a townhouse or a condo that evenutally would be ours. Does anyone know of any nice townhouses? I am from Smithtown now and FH works in Queens...the town isn't that important, we just want a nice clean place...thanks!!!

Well, before you set your hearts to a townhouse here is something to consider.

If you get a house for $400 your mortgage will probably by $3100 (This is a total guesstimate based on what I pay for $535) If you get a 2 bedroom townhouse you also have to pay maintenance. This can run from an additional $500 to $850 on top of your mortgage.

yes they are! we own one but the reason we wanted one over a house is because of the little maintenance involved. Yes, there are always things to do inside, but outside, aside from planting our back and small front yard, that's really it. It's nice for us at this point in our lives.

I don't live on LI but we have a townhouse in Westchester. We pay $350 on top of the mortgage, but that is because we have landscapers, garbage removal, tennis courts and a pool. We also have pest control.

But yes, some townhouses can cost as much as a house. Just take into consideration the regular maintenance of a house.

not always!

we paid $330,000 for our Town House, which we LOVE in Central Islip. CI has some 'bad' parts to it, but we feel like we found our own little bubble in which to live! My dad's a retired sergeant from the city, and he even checked it out and gave it the okay! They building up a lot around us, too, so it's getting better and better! Our maintenance fees are only $177.50/month... much less compared to other places! WE LOVE OUR TOWNHOUSE! We feel like God plopped it down on this earth just for us! . 2 Bedrooms, 1 1/2 bath, basement, garage, LR with cathedral ceilings, full kitchen, dining room, porch, deck, etc. The Community House has a gym, rec room, party room, tennis courts, 3 pools... just the BEST. We don't mow the lawn or shovel snow - and they collect our garbage and recycling. WE ARE IN LOVE with our Town House!
