traditional Jewish processional music?

traditional Jewish processional music?

My rabbi 'strongly suggested' that we not use secular music for our processional. (I'm a little disappointed, as we were going to use two of our favorite songs, but we'll get over it). She suggested two traditional songs - 'Erev Shel Shoshanim' and 'Dodi Li.' Anyone ever hear these? Anyone have an MP3 or a link to a Jewish music site? I have to get our song list to our band ASAP.

THANK YOU!!!

Thanks!!

Now, how wil my band know which version of the son I want? SHould I burn them a CD and send it along, or do I have to find sheet music?

any band will know what you want them to play if they have had any experience with jewish weddings.

ask them for Dodi Li by Sher and Erev Shel Shoshanim by Hadar. Those are the most 'traditional' and most used versions of those songs.

also, dont forget to tell them you'll need 'siman tov u-mazal tov' to be played after your FH breaks the glass.

HTH!

Re: traditional Jewish processional music?

I'm totally freaking out because I'm going to meet with a cantor this weekend and ...

I don't like Jewish music and I don't know how to break it to her... I'm also a bad jew

but I did a search for Erev Shel Shoshanim on youtube, its not so bad ...

There is even a funky guitar-like duo doing it:

Heres another that didn't make me cringe and think of Yeshiva days:

Any fairly decent DJ will find you a version that appeals to your music tastes and styles.

I have heard of those songs and I acutally looked them up on Amazon and listened to the short clips that they have there.

Our rabbi suggested the same thing but he wasn't so strict on it- we ended up using Air on G String for DH and the bridal party, his parents, and then Pachabell's Cannon in D for my walk down the aisle.
