traditions

so last night FH & I were talking about some of our holiday traditions & which ones we want to continue. we also got to talking about what traditions we want to start once we have kids.

so what are some holidays traditions that you have?? & what are some you want to start once you have kids???

some of the things that we do & want to continue are:

thanksgiving: (dinner made by FH) with his family & once we have a house we will also include my family.

christmas eve: with my family & we want to go back to staying up until 12AM to open presents. when we have kids i want to get those mother/daughter matching dresses. i think they are so adorable.

christmas day: FH & I opening presents in the morning. when we have kids i want to get the matching holiday pajamas. then FMIL at our house for dinner (made by FH).

Awwww thats so cute.

FH and I havent really talked about what traditions we will be keeping. We have many issues with holidays now and were not even married yet.

Fh's family doesnt really do much for the holidays anymore. To be polite his father isn't the most pleasant person to be around and carries some bad habbits. So they dont really get invited anywhere for holidays or for anything else for that matter. I do a lot with my family we are really close extended family and all and we are forever doing some sort of family events. His family gets really mad at the fact were always doing things with my family and they get mad we dont invite them. We have before and it usually turns out pretty embarassing. So we stopped inviting them.

So when it comes to holidays he usually goes to his parents house and I'll stop by and we usually spend most of our time with my family. But FMIL said when we get married we HAVE to pick what holidays we are spending with which family. Ugh im not too sure about that one!

This is how it goes so far...

Thanksgiving we go to the FH's house around noon for more of a 'lunch.' his entire family will be there..grandparents, aunts, uncles, everyone.. we have a huge meal, but dont eat too much because then we go to my house around 5 for dinner, and once again, we eat....

Christmas eve we go to FH's aunts house...his moms side of the family his Italian, so his entire moms side will be there and he aunt cooks this AMAZINGGG italian dinner...it is honestly the best meal everrr

Christmas day is spent at his house and my house, and then in the evening everyone goes to my grams to eat a bunch of stacks..

i love the way things work out now.. I never want to quit the Italian dinner on christmas eve, and I love going to my grams on christmas evening..

once we get our own house, I hope to start having things there..

Re: traditions

holidays are always hard running around trying to see everyone and their mother so when we get married i would like to pick a holiday and have it at OUR home. it would be a nice break for us and i love to entertain!

my grandparents get us grandkiddies pajamas every year and give them to us on christmas eve.. i think its adorable and i would like to keep that tradition going. i love LOVE that we all decorate the tree together, drink wine play and x-mas music.

x-mas eve is the big holiday for us.. so much food and seafood and presents with the aunts uncles and cousins.. i will always remember the madness and laughs wrestling tournaments, football in the front yard etc.. i hope that stays with us for a long time.

oo and every year my mom makes to most AMAZING christmas cookies.. like no joke... AMAZING! i would like to carry that on for my family.. with her recipes of coarse!!!

Re: traditions

well on Thanksgiving we go to my house, we used to go to his uncles but we havent done that in a few years, so we just stick to my house. FH has work the night before and the night of thanksgiving so he will just basically come over and eat.

Christmas Eve we usually go to his uncles, but FH doesn't talk to his cousin anymore, so he doesnt want to go there, so i think that this year we will start a new tradition and just stay at my house and christmas day he just comes over and spends christmas day with my family. but since he isnt going to spend Christmas eve with his family this year i am not too sure of whats going on.

but i cant wait to start some new traditions when we have children

thanksgiving is dinner with my family and his family for dessert. we do my family on christmas eve and his family on christmas day. we want to host one of the holidays when we get our own place, but we are still working on the details of what we want to do.

Re: traditions

Unfortunately FH isnt too big on the holidays. He never had a good holiday growing up. (his father was not a nice person). So there are no traditions there. But with my family... we are definately keeping the Christmas eve traditon and I am hoping to start our own traditons for some of the other holidays.

FH is half Jewish so we will celebrate all Jewish holidays with his fam lol I would love to have Christmas eve. with my fam because the traditional Italian Christmas eve. is practically all fish and I always helped my mom fry forever!!
Easter will be at my parents too!

Christmas we'll probably just split sometime with his fam and some time with mine and thanksgiving is up in the air...I am def. going to miss cooking with my mom for ALL of the holidays but we need to compromise!

Our parents are close and have done holidays together so I can def. see it being all together eventually!

Re: traditions

We always make our own thanksgiving dinner every year a few days before the actual holiday. Since we both work retail thanksgiving is one of the most stressful holidays so we like to take time to enjoy it with each other before all the madness. Also every year christmas eve his cousin has a party Christmas eve.

Re: traditions

We are probably gonna split the holidays for now but since we'll be in NY for awhile, we will spend a lot of time with my family on the holidays cuz fh's is in NH. And when we have kids I want them to see both sides of the family, alternating for holidays. Big family dinners, presents on christmas morning and decorating the christmas tree together. That's stuff I wanna always do with my family and my kids
