Traffic Court - Hempstead

Anyone have any input on the Traffic Court in Hempstead on Cooper Ave.??? Are they generous?? strict?? crowded & slow?? crowded but fast??

Also .. any tips/advice for a speeding ticket would be much appreciated. I plan on going for my scheduled date. According to my ticket, I was not caught by radar .. but by 'pace' .. does that help or hurt my chances?

And just to vent .. it's impossible to stick to the speed limit in many situations .. TRY going 55 on the LIE or either the NS or SS parkways .. it's like you're creating more danger than if you're going along with the flow .. but then you get nabbed .. and going with the flow is no good. SUX!!

I've bene there. it's annoying to get to, because there are other courts around and I went to the wrong one at first SOOOOO crowded. I got out of there very quickly though because I had an arttorney (my BIL) and they get priority so I went, like 3rd. My BIL discussed evertyhing with the DA before the hearing and the 'trial' basically took under 2 minutes. So if ou know an attorney, pay him or her $50 to come with you.

Get there early. First come first serve. If you have a lawyer thats even better. You'll be able to plead it down.

From a past experience .. and from others I know .. I didn't think getting there earlier or later had anything to do with it (obvioulsy not later than your scheduled time) .. as for the lawyer .. again, from a past experience and from others I know .. a lawyer wasn't present, and everyone got some kind of reduction.

OSCARtheGROOM, I'm wondering .. does this particular court work on a first come, first serve basis??? And is having a lawyer at this court the only way to get a reduction?? Or were you speaking about traffic courts in general??

I went, didn't have a lawyer, and was there first. Didn't matter who was there first. Went into a room. They called names. Whoever's cop wasn't there left right away and were asked to come back. Some whose cop didn't show 2 times I think were released with the ticket dropped. I went, plead my case, and the judge didn't reduce or throw out any cases that day, regardless of whether you had a lawyer. Waste of a whole afternoon, let me tell you...

If a cop gave you a ticket for 'pacing' you... no radar used... thats just as good as if the cop got you on the radar.

If the cop is pacing behind you and you are over the speed limit... your busted. The cop cars have 'calibrated' speedos that need to be tuned every few months. A calibrated speedo reading from pacing is just as admissable in court as a radar shot.

My uncle is retired from the courts, and my cousin is on maternity leave, and they told me the quicker you get there the faster you will get out. If you have a lawyer even faster. So if your court time is at 2:00. Don't get there 5 minutes early. You will be waiting along time. If you get a ticket in Suffolk for speeding forget about it. Your screwed. You can't win. My lawyer caught the highway cop lying, and proved it. The judge didn't care. They always take the side of the cops out there.

I'vew been to that court. When i went my cop wasn't there, there were no cops there as far as I can tell, the cops weren't even involved. My atty arrnage the plea baragin kind of thing beforehand, the judge asked me if I was the person in question I said yes, he asked if I agreed ot the terms, I said yes. The end.

ETA: They called the people with lawyers first
