Okay so we have been trying to train daisy to go to the bathroom outside. She is in a crate for the day.. when we work, and at night, and when we can't supervise her. She also has cocydia (sp) so we know training is difficult until she gets better. She is really good about not going in her crate. She makes it all day and cries once or twice in the night, we get her and bring her outside. We bring her outside to 'go' as soon as she leaves her crate, every time. But she keeps having accidents in the house, a lot. We know that before she 'goes' she runs around in circles and acts really crazy. If we see her doing that we pick her up and bring her outside. If she goes then we priase her and give a treat. If she starts to go inside and we bring her out to finish she doesn't get a treat. Sometimes she circles by the back door and lets us know that she needs to go that way. Do you think the delay in trianing is all due to her diareahea? She is 12 weeks. How long does it take? We have WHITE carpets in a very very very small house. Keeping her off the carpets is not an options. THe house is only 3 rooms... similar to an apartment.
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE AWESOME!!! TIA

Re: training advice.
Based on our own training with Golem, it sounds like you are doing evrything right! You mentioned that your puppy has cocydia, so that is definitly going to make the housebreaking a little harder (any sickness will hamper the housetraining) - your vet will probably tell you the same thing. If she's good in her crate, then it sounds like you just have to really keep a close eye on her whenever she is out, just until the cocydia clears up (not familiar with this, but I'm assuming it's a temporary thing that will pass?)
Maybe in the meantime as a precaution, just tether her to you with her leash, and take her outside every 15 - 20 minutes to avoid indoor accidents? Don't leave it up to her to let you know when she has to go - assume she needs your direction until you are comfortable that she's always giving you a signal before going. She's still so young, and sometimes they don't realize they have to go until - oh uh, there it is!
If there's any area in your house that you can section off for her during this time - you might want to do that too. Perhaps a small safety gate where you can close off a room or you can even get a little enclosure gate too - line teh bottom with papers and put her in there to play - any accidents are easily cleaned up that way too.
Also, you should ALWAYS praise and treat when they go outside, even if you are catching her inside and she's finishing outside. I think you mentioned that you do not praise and treat when that happens? It's really frustrating, but with the treats, she'll eventually associate outside business as a good thing and will want to do it on her own to get your approval. Aside from that, and keeping a very close eye on her - just have patience and remember she's just a baby who doesn't know any better yet! You will get through this! Our Golem is 3 1/2 months old, and we're just at the point now where we are not worrying about his indoor accidents anymore. Just keep in mind that your puppy's cocydia will delay the process a bit, but have patience, and before you know it - she'll be fully housebroken Hope this was helpful - best of luck to you!!!!

I would give a treat everytime she goes outside, whether you have to bring her out after she is going to have an accident or not. When she is going to go in the house, yell no and then bring her outside and give her a treat. Cheerios worked great for us. Chewie still looks up after he goes waiting for his Cheerios! He was 5 1/2 months when he didn't have an accident anymore. You have a while to go. Good luck!

Thanks guys. Her virus is getting better. It started to get better very suddenly however its not 100% yet. I will try to reward her even she goes half in the house half out... Maybe that will help. But if she goes all the in the house and then I take her out.... and she doesn't go anymore... no treats right?

You're right - only treat when she goes potty outside, even if she did start in the house. No outside potty - no treat :)
Glad to hear she is starting to feel better already!! (And good for your rugs too! )

That's right, as long as she goes partly outside after telling her no about inside I would give her a treat.
