Re: Trash the dress session...
if you want to do this idea on your own without having another expense, my cousin got married in nov but wanted pics of her and hubby on the beach in the warm weathe so she got a fam friend to go in july with them to the beach dressed up again and they got a few cute pics, but them 'trashed' the dress at the beach!... in the ocean, sand draggin on the boardwalk AND they had a blast! no extra $$ and new season pics!!!

Re: Trash the dress session...
A lot of the photographers I looked at were in the $500 for the shoot range. It depends what kind of photographer you want more than anything. We didn't do flowers for our day afters, but we did rent DH's tux again and I got my makeup done. We will make our own album online later this year. My SIL did my hair for free (she's a hairstylist). We had such a good time, and for us it was a must. It was a monsoon on our wedding day and we got no outdoor pics. I'm so glad I did the day afters!

Re: Trash the dress session...
I did one about a year ago and my photog was charging $350 then. I think this included 2 hr session and your pics in a high ress cd. She may have gone up a little, but I know she also makes packages according to what the bride needs. FM me if you want her info.

Re: Trash the dress session...
thanks for the help ladies!! I def wanna do this due to the lack of outdoor daylight pictures im going to have at my wedding...also I was hoping to use a different photographer than the one we chose for our wedding... 500 isnt going to break the bank too much... I was scared it would be like... 1000+!
And people 'trash the dress' to get really awesome pictures after the wedding is over. Its a great way to get all the pics you want without worrying if your dress is going to be dirty for the reception! You can get some great shots in unconventional places....ALSO some brides go CRAZY and jump into water, or mud etc and REALLY go for the whole trash the dress... I guess since in reality your not going to wear it again, and if you dont want to save it for the possibility of giving it to your kids or whatever, why not get some awesome pics!?

Re: Trash the dress session...
Let me preface this by saying that it is your dress and you can really do whatever you want...
Having said that, I really hate this idea. It's one thing if you don't permantly ruin the dress, but I have seen paint, mud, etc. that won't come off. There are several charities you can donate a dress to if you don't want to preserve it. There are needy people out there who would really appreciate it! Two charities to consider: Bridal Garden and Brides for Breast Cancer. Both charities sell used bridal gowns and use the proceeds for charitable purposes.
Before you totally destroy the dress, consider helping out someone else.
thanks! ive looked at millions... love em!! love the whole idea and yes it is MY dress and ill do what I want with it!! ( and I dont plan on ruining it)

Re: Trash the dress session...
i'm pretty sure the vast majority of women who do trash the dress sessions don't actually ruin their dress. those pictures are really extreme, and if you're really into that, more power to you. but mostly i've seen girls getting their dresses dirty from sitting on the ground, sand, etc., and going in the water, neither of which (in most cases) cause permanent damage to the dress. i think it's PRETTY rare for someone to set themselves on fire while in the wedding dress. i think they call that self-immolation....

You don't necessarily have to trash it, but you ca take pictures in different settings and more casual poses...You can also do a 'rock the dress' shoot, where you're basically just modeling your dress. If you do want to go in the ocean, I've read brides who just had them cleaned afterwards. Don't let the name scare you!

Re: Trash the dress session...
I asked this very same question - WHY would anyone want to trash their wedding dress?
The website that pretty much started the craze has gone on to change their name to 'Free to Flaunt' because people get upset by the name. You can also call it a 'day after shoot' or 'rock the frock'. I'll be doing one with FH and we're both really excited about it!

WOW! I don't know if I can handle the thought... LOL
I want to keep it for my daughter to see... I always wished my mother still had her dress, I would have liked to take a piece and sew it into mine!

Re: Trash the dress session...
My day after photog does a trash the dress session for $500 and and a day after session for $300 (I'm not sure what the difference is).
We used William Chang (william-chang.com). He has VERY reasonable prices on the individual photo prints (only $5 for a 5x7 for example, not $35 like my day of photog is charging) and albums (10x10 favorites book with 15 pages/30 sides is only $300). You can see his work on his blog too (williamchangblog.com).
