We usually book vacays ourselves, but are definitely using a travel agent for our HM. Since this is such a significant trip, we want to make sure there is someone back home who is accountable in case anything gets messed up or if we have any issues.
Also, I'm hoping that a TA may be able to get us special HM deals or upgrades.

we are doing the same. We got the prices from travel agent. Now I am trying to research the same hotels and see how much I am overpaying for travel agent

From what I've seen, the whole trip cost a lot MORE through the TA. I understand that on expedia the price isn't including tax and fees and all those goodies, but even after all that it still comes out cheaper to book on my own than through a TA.

i disagree with what was said about TA - ours got us amazing deals on flight and hotel (our flight ended up being free using miles). fm me if you want her contact info, she is the best.

Re: Travel Agent Vs. Booking yourself
Our HM is the first time I'm using a travel agent. I've done a considerable amount of international travel, and had always booked things on my own. However, we plan on going to a few different places (road trip through Normandy, Paris, and London), and juggling all the requirements (car rental, trains) in addition to the typical airfare and hotel was too much for me to figure out. She can probably find us sales, probably not a HUGE difference between what can be found online, but for us it comes more down to the demands of the trip than the price difference.
we booked ourselves and the only thing is that u get extra stuff if its your honey moon and I think we may have missed out on that...

Re: Travel Agent Vs. Booking yourself
I booked thru a TA and then checked on my own online. our TA got us a better deal by 200 bucks than best price online. and I usually only book online myself
even w/whatever fee she got out of it, which I have no idea what it is, we still got a better deal

The prices were exactly the same through my travel agent. I think he saved us an extra $200 though or something. Otherwise, not a huge difference.

Liberty Travel will match whatever you find online (expedia) so I would always go with the travel agent....plus if something goes wrong with the hm you can always contact your travel agent and not have to go crazy trying to contact someone online......jmo

Re: Travel Agent Vs. Booking yourself
well Sandals, if you CALL and book, you end up with your own vacation planner person.....
so I have a go to guy to call w/questions concerns...and he hooked us up, he went nuts trying to locate info of FHs last stay in a sandals which got us $250 off, AND he told us to make sure that we mention that FH has a Sandals Select # (which we had no idea but he found it) cuz we're entitled to being upgraded to a better room if ones available at check in...
as for the other part of our HM, Disneyworld, i used Elaina from Creative Travel...she did ALL the research for me, prices, packages, etc before we were even going to use her!! i didnt have to think about disney once....at a showcase i MENTIONED wanting to go and that they werent booking for may yet, she says 'well dont worry about it, gimme ur phone number, ill keep my eye on it' well i totally forgot about it, August 1st i got a call that they were booking for may, w/all the details to boot!!
i looked it up online and found the SAME price as what she quoted, so i figured we'd use her! and shes been amazing...Southwest JUST started booking flights for May 23, and she called me first thing yesterday to tell me the cheapest fare she found etc....no fees, no nothing!
