I think that its better not to go through a travel agent, they can end up charging you more money

if any changes need to be made then your travel agent can do it for you. You don't have to worry about getting your tickets, hotel info, car rental, etc - everything is done for you. And from my experience, they do get better prices than you can get yourself. My MIL is a travel agent and she always tells me that if I can get a better price online than of course I shoudl book it, but she ALWAYS gets better prices than I can find myself.

I saved 200 bucks by going through a travel agent. Plus, they'll call the morning we leave (the day after the wedding) to remind our Disney resort that it's our honeymoon, and they'll make all of our reservations for swimming with the dolphins and dinners, etc. (I usually like doing this stuff myself, but I could use the help while planning the wedding!)

I think it's best to do your research in advance - whether or not you decide to go with a TA or not.
I knew where we wanted to go - went on expedia.com/travelocity/all those sites, and found that the quote the TA gave me was a lot cheaper.
Travel Agents are entitled to discounts and bulk air fare prices - that's a huge benefit.
That being said - We boked our HM through Dave at In & Out Travel - a vendor on here, and it was the best decision we ever made.
He's GREAT to work with!

Re: Travel Agents
The travel agent I used is someone my FMIL knows and we have used for trips in the past. She's great. She's gotten us upgraded rooms before for no extra charge. For our honeymoon she was able to find us a great deal on the hotel/airfare and made sure we booked it before it ended.

They can also get great deals on packages for you.
We aren't using one since we're using timeshare/points/miles for our trip but, otherwise we would be.

I have always gone to them with internet packages and prices and gotten a better rate. With a travel agent you can rest assured you are going to the best places you can afford - I have had numerous friends see something online and be terribly disappointed in the end. They don't charge you at all. The airlines pays them like $20 as a commission for booking - that $20 doesn't get added to your ticket price though - so really it is a contractual deal btw the airlines and the agent, has nothing to do with you or your price.
