When does the distance between the ceremony and reception hall become to great that it is an inconvenience to the guests? I want to have the ceremony in a site that is about an hour away, but have been told by family that it is too much. What do you all think?

Re: Travel Time Between Ceremony and RH
i think an hour is a bit much if there is traffic, a car accident or something, an hour can easily turn into 2..... a lot of ladies here have a significant time ttravel. but i kept mine to the minimum. i know for myself if the distance was that far, there is a high probability that i won't make it to both. i'll prob just skip the service and go directly to the reception..
some may say if people want to be with u they'll do the distance and that is true.. u'r parents, grandparents, cousins. etc will def do it.. but many will skip the travel time for sure..

Re: Travel Time Between Ceremony and RH
I am finding that people are skipping out on the ceremony part.. ALOT LATELY! (even when it's not toooo far) I was in a wedding in October where the church was about 25 minutes from the RH and not many people came to the ceremony........

An hour is a bit far. Its been said that the distance between the ceremony and RH should not be more than 15miles. You wouldn't be the first one to do it though. I knew a bride that got married in Brooklyn and then had her reception at the Sand Castle (pretty far). I personally wouldn't do it. My ceremony and RH are 10-15 minutes drive apart

There is a way to have your church an hour away without it being too much on the guests. There is about 45 minutes between my church and my RH. We hired two 55 passenger buses to take the guests from the church to the RH and then to take them at the end of the night from the RH back to the church where their cars are waiting. My catering hall is even having drinks and appetizers for the guests from 4:00 on even though my cocktail hour is starting at 6:00. My guests are so stoked and it wasn't that expensive. FM if you need more info.

I have about 45 minutes between mine, but I also have a large gap, church is at 2:30 and CH starts at 7 so that 45 minute travel time will help!!! Maybe there will be some traffic :)

I think 30 minutes is a good time frame.

Re: Travel Time Between Ceremony and RH
An hour is far, especially if you have guests that are OOH and have already driven an hour or more to get to the church. They might feel like they spent the entire day in the car :(

Re: Travel Time Between Ceremony and RH
Between our church and East Wind is about 40-45 minutes. My dad thought it was way too far for our guests to travel, but I haven't heard any complaints, except from an aunt who lives in Nassau (we live in Suffolk). I think you should have your reception where you want it to be- people will travel.

i noticed the same and it's really unfortunate ... i think people just don't want to have to wait too long between the ceremony and reception -- my first priority RH is a bit far from my church so I found one really close instead coz for me, the ceremony is more important
