Re: Traveling on NYC Subways?
I've started seeing more police presence on the subways....but nothing w/the bag searching...HOWEVER - I do get off at Grand Central Terminal and I have seen cops going through bags at random.

Honestly, I'm glad they're doing it. As a 9/11 'survivor' it's about time. There are so many creepy people walking around and we haven't the slightest idea what they're walking around with in their bags.
I do understand the invasion of privacy issue - believe me I do...but if it's for my safety - search away. There's nothing in my bag (tampons, pads, flip flops, underwear, etc) that's too private for the sake of privacy!
My bag is HUGE - thankfully organized, so I can unzip easily, they can search, and I can be on my way.

I get off at Grand Central as well. Also have seen alot more police around I also work around the UN building as well so there are alot of police around my area
As for the bags I haven't sseen that going on but I am glad that they are doing it. This is very scarey whats been going on with these bombings even though its not in NY it is still scarey.

I take the subway several times everyday. I noticed more police the day of London's first bombing, but it was only that day. I certainly hope that they decide the beefed up presence needs to be permanent.

me too. i saw 15 officers the day of the bombing at one station, and ONE the next day. and when there were 15, they were all clustered together in one spot.

Re: Traveling on NYC Subways?
I agree....It would be impossible to search everyones bags like they do at airports, but it has always seemed silly to me that trains/buses/subways were so unsecure. I know that this would be sporadic, but every little bit helps I guess.

Well said!
I just wish I wasn't helping my sister move this weekend on the train.
