Traveling out of state...

Traveling out of state...

What do you girls think would be a safe travel period before your due date? The reason I ask is because we live in NC and all our friends and family is in NY, and the only way I'd be able to have a Baby Shower would be to go to NY. Now it can't be a surprise because it's too hard to coordinate since we live out of state, so it would have to be at a time that was convenient for us. I thought we could do it in November. My due date is January 15th. Is this too close to my due date? I never got to have a Bridal Shower, and I've always wanted a Baby Shower, so I'd really like to have one, you know!!! How long before your due date did you have your baby shower?

Your best bet is to ask your doctor. Mine let me travel until I was 25 weeks. My mom threw me a shower and I flew from FL to NY. I was due on July 2 (02). But they will let you know what they are comfortable with.

I think you will be safe if you do it in November. Talk with your doctor and see how you are coming along. I know what it's like to have family and friends far away. See if they will come to you. You are the one who is prego. Maybe they can come to you? Never hurts to ask? I think that would be only fair. If that is not a possibility by all mean go and have you baby shower. You deserve it! Just ask for your docs opinion. If you are that worried bring hubby with you! Good luck!

I would talk to your doctor, insurance company and the airline that you will be flying with. Some insurance companies have specific criteria in what they pay or don't pay if you are out of their area. Also, airlines have specific policies as well. I know that for me, my doctor didn't want me to be more than an hour away after 36 weeks; my insurance company did not want me to be flying past 34 weeks and the airline did not want me to fly past 32 weeks.

Some docs are conservative with travel and others aren't. My docs told me I could travel (by plane) until almost my eight month. But, since my ankles became really swollen when I flew at 5 months, I opted not to make another trip, just for my own comfort.

You also need to ask the airline what their restrictions are before you book your trip.

Like the other girls said talk to your doctor. Mine said that I could travel up to 32 weeks as long as I didn't have any complications.

Are you flying or driving? I would think Nov is fine. I just went to CA at week 26, but the trip was not easy for me with my nerve issues.
But driving, you can stop often so that might be easier.
Talk to the doctor. You don't want a shower too early either

We would be driving! It's just such a long trip. It's at least 10 hours from where we're coming.
