Travelling with Maiden name

Travelling with Maiden name

Even if you have a marriage license, can you still book your travels and cruises w/ your maiden name no matter how long you've been married? Eventually I will change mine, when I get the time that is.

Travel agent did it for me saying as long as tixx and boarding passes match passport name, it's good. I will carry offical marriage cert for safe-keeping anyway bc my DL is updated. That was up for renewal at the time of my marriage.

Just because you have a marriage license doesn't mean that your name changes. Unless you are able to change your license, passport, credit cards and all that good stuff before you leave for the HM, do everything in your maiden name. That is the name you should use until you officially change your name.

Thanks for the post but this isn't my HM. This is my 2nd HM. LOL

I just had a nightmare that customs wants all official documents in your married name if you possess a marriage cert. like I said, NIGHTMARE.

at your nightmare

you're actually SUPPOSED to book things under your maiden name if you haven't officially changed it yet (SS, DMV, etc) .... so you're good

I know I shouldn't give them any ideas right? LOL

I did change it at the DMV though, but not SS. That's what I was worried about also.

It's not a problem - as long as your passport matches your tickets.

For example, if you were flying domestically, and your driver's license had your married name and that's what you were going to show at the airport for ID, you would need a ticket in your married name.

If you were flying internationally and your passport was in your maiden name, your ticket must be in your maiden name.

Just because you have a marriage license, your name does not automatically change. All it gives you is the RIGHT to use your DH's last name.

Oh and you can travel domestically under your maiden name just show your passport with your maiden name on it instead of your driver's license with your married name for ID.

Thanks, these are helpful responses.

The same rules that apply for flying internationally apply for crusing internationally I think. Correct?

As long as you didn't change your passport. Just remember you won't be able to use your driver's license as travel ID since it has your married name!

I didn't change my passport yet so the cruise we're taking in October will be under my maiden name. HTH!

ETA: And we are cruising internationally as well!

As long as your ID has your maiden name, you will be fine.

Thanks ladies,
This is all making more sense to me.

Obviously since the passports are federal issued, it would supercede any state issued ID which does not even prove citizenship.

Also, not everone even has a driver's license anyway. I have a friend who doesn't drive, and she's been everywhere. lol

You travel with the name that is on your passport/drivers license.
