Hello I'm asking for a friend. She is wanting a venue that is trendy and off beat, not a typical wedding catering hall look. So far she has liked: Allegria hotel Indigo Hotel Insignia Waters Edge
Can anyone recommend some places similar? Thanks in advance!

Trendy, Off Beat wedding halls?
I'm not sure if it's trendy, but it's certainly offbeat. Someone in my FB feed got married at the Country Fair Entertainment Park. It's a place with go carts, mini golf etc. It seems like they set up a tent, chairs and tables and the whole outdoor thing. Not sure on the details, but that seemed like a cute, different idea.
FH and I looked at The Foundry in Long Island City after I saw it featured on an episode of Girls on HBO. Very Trendy and it has a great outdoor space. Looks kind of like an urban oasis, but its just a space. You'd have to be responsible for furnishing it/finding a cater etc. In the end we ultimately decided to walk away bc thats too much stress to take on, and they have a pretty steep site fee. If thats not a problem though, I say def check it out. :) http://www.thefoundry.info/imagesinteriors.html

the water's edge is really great- went to a wedding there last sept... If she liked that place, I would definitely go for it! And if you go with a sunday there, you get the whole restaurant level for cocktail hour. Some of the best food I've had at a wedding

She should check out chateau Briand.. It's different from other venues in that it's very art-deco, their rooms are supposed to be like south beach Miami chic? (Idk what these things mean but I believed the woman giving us the tour lol). Definitely a different venue, but with all the great perks like amazing food and great service like a typical wedding hall.

I looked at Insignia it was so awesome I loved it but FH wasn't fond of how trendy it was. Also check out Penthouse 808 it's good for a smaller wedding and has a gorgeous view.

I looked at Water's Edge and was very unimpressed. The view is beautiful, but the room itself is kind of run down (peeling paint, dirty carpeting).
I've been to the Foundry....depending on the size the dinner and dancing are in different rooms. If she wants a warehouse look this place definitely has it!
If she wants urban-y (if thats a word) there's a place in Queens called the Onderdonk House. It's the oldest building in Queens and they have a huge outdoor space in the back for ceremony/reception. I believe the CH can be done in the actual house which is beautiful. They include a tent, chairs, tables, etc and my guess is it's extremely reasonable. It's run by volunteers (the local Historical Society) so the entire cost goes to preserving the house. It's surrounded by factories which is less than ideal, but so are the Foundry and Water's Edge!

We got engaged at Penthouse 808! I love the view. It's not so huge though, so it would be a pretty intimate wedding.
