Trial vs. Day Of

Trial vs. Day Of

So I finally made my appointment for my make-up trial and FH of course asked me how much for trial ($40) and how much for day of ($125). So he asks what the difference is and if there isn't a big difference why not make tell the make-up artist the day of that it is a trial and save $80?

So my question to everyone is, what is the difference for trial make-up vs. day-of? If there is a difference of how much is put on, then how can you really know what it will look like the day of?

See this is why I do not tell FH all of the planning because he puts things like this in my head!

what if you don't like the trial? what if it doesn't wear well or not up to par?

when you go for a trial, you need to REALLY try it out whether it's hair or makeup. go out dancing, go exercise, sweat, get movement in!

i wouldn't nix the trial

Well I guess the trial is so you and her will know what colors to use and what not to use. Then again, with mine, I was wondering how is she going to remember to use the same colors. I think when the artist sees a ton of people at your house or wedding stuff out she will day it's the day of your wedding.

to be completely honest....there is no difference. it is more expensive the day of because you are a 'Bride' and when you mention wedding to vendors the price goes up significantly. lots of people on here will tell you that they spend sooo much time on you and yada yada but they should be doing that for the trial as well and more so on the trial because they are trying different looks until you like one. its ridiculous but unless you want to do your own makeup....we have to pay the price.

I'm not sure of the difference because I didnt do my trial yet but it's so funny that your FH said that because mine said the same thing...lol...I also try not to tell him things because he thinks he's so smart but all he does is make me think all kind of things and second guess stuff...lol

I definitely want a trial for make-up and hair because I tend to be very picky about make-up. Freaking FH making me second guess...

Of course the prices should be different. A trial is just a way to get a 'sneak preview' of what you would look like on your wedding day.

Also, trials cost $$ because you are paying a makeup artist for her time and use of her materials, then she should be compensated for it. Since the wedding day will cost more - it makes sense because she may have to pony up more $$ for guaranteeing the products she used will be available plus items like brushes, cleaners, etc.

It makes sense that the trial costs less because most people just want to get an idea of a style that the Makeup girl uses...I told my FH the cost of one trial I had ($75) and his response was 'all that just to get a taste of what she can do you on wedding day?'..thing is men don't understand the price we pay for beauty. I never tell FH anything about $$ re: makeup or hair. The less he knows, the better!

I don't know..I tend to disagree. I def think the price of a trial and day of should be the same. I mean they are charging you more bc you're throwing in the word wedding. And also, some don't seem to know what the word trial means. I had a horrible first trial and then at the end was put on the spot, asked for my contact info bc they assumed I was booking with them.

Men seem to think we can just 'wing it' they day of. I definitely know that I am not risking getting my hair and make-up done for the first time on my wedding day. I agree, the less he knows the better for both him and me.

Most trials take place at the persons salon, but typically day of they travel to you also. which would result in a higher fee.

I don't know what your specific artist does, but I know that for mine, I went to the trial at a salon. Day-of, she's coming to me. I think that alone justifies the price difference for mine.

Makes sense, because for my trial I'm going to her, and day of she's coming to me.

as a MUA:

I would charge more for trial than day of!

Trials are more time consuming...day of, you know what to do and spend less time.

You are paying for someone's time and supplies...not like a hair cut...know what I mean?

I think 40 for trial is really good price... and in my opinion, make up is just as important as your dress!!!!!!!!!
