If you leave the lab and you don't remain in contact with anyone there, than I say screw ettiquette and just don't invite them.

Re: tricky ettiquite question... sorry, long.
Well I would say since you sent the STDs you should invite them.
Just bc you might not be working there does that mean you wont be friends with them still?
If you will never seen them again (if you leave) then I dont think you should invite them.
Good luck this is a tricky situation.

I would invite him anyway, and let him decide if he wants to come.

I forgot to quote 'nferrndi'.....
My thoughts exactly..if you have no intention of maintaining a relationship with them, why invite them..
Why don't you just play it by ear, when the time comes to send out invites, see where your relationship stands..if you haven't spoken to them, don't invite them!

So we are talking 10 people..your advisor and his spouse and then the other 4 and there spouses. If I were you I would definately invit your advisor...even if you are not going to stay in the lab..it is a gesture that I think you should do.
As far as the others....I think if you send out the STD you have to invit them....BUT chances are if you aren't close with them they arent going to spend all the money in airfair, hotel and gift to come...my guess is they wont come anyway so dont sweat it!!!

You should invite them because you sent STD's to them. Chances are you will keep in contact with a few people. And if you don't talk to the rest, chances are they won't come.
This is the reason I didn't invite any work people, they come and go so quickly. I've worked with soooooo many people in my last company, and I only talk to about 6 of them total.

What we are doing as far as save the dates is sending to all of the people who will definetely be invited..ie..family and close friends and then we will take time to think about people we are on the fence about then we are going to decide who will get real invites when we send them out
