Tricky Situation- Coworkers
So I never intended to invite my coworkers. I still don't. FH has way too large of a family, we want to stay as close to our minimum of 125 as possible, and I don't hang out with them out of work. It's a small office, and mostly everyone there is older than me, and the few contemporaries I do have, like I said, we don't really socialize.
The business isn't wedding related per se, but it does have the capability to be. We're a distributor, so we have access to a lot of vendors that I can get my grubby little hands on some goodies, if I so chose.
A few months ago, my coworker did her daughters favors, STDs, and a bunch of other things through us. Mugs, gift bags, magnets, and a few other things I think too. She invited the adult employees (because I'm not an adult I guess) to the wedding, so it was acceptable.
I never wanted to take advantage of this, because then I would feel obligated to invite them. So I didn't.
Until today when I decided eff it, I'm too cheap, I'm going to do my ribbon wands. So I was able to process the order, and the same woman whose daughter got married said not to treat myself as a client, but rather have it billed to the company, and either I would pay the invoice directly, or my boss might even just let it slide, so to give him the option of absorbing it.
Awesome, right??? Free stuff!
NOOOO.
So now I'm having a mild panic attack. I always had the full intention to pay for anything I purchased, I just wanted a lower price. I think if it gets taken care of, it would be really inappropriate of me to turn around and then NOT invite my coworkers. I have to invite all or nothing because it's a small office, even though obviously that wasn't followed the other time, but that was different cuz it was her daughter, not her. AND I'd probably have to invite the 2 outside sales reps who work out of state, because its the week before our holiday party, and I really can't stand one of them. So I'm looking at 18 people total (workers plus wives/husbands/bfs/gfs), and 2 extra tables!!!
What would you do in my situation? Am I completely out of line now for taking advantage of my position and not inviting my coworkers? The cost is a factor, plus I don't plan on doing this forever, you know? UGH.
Sorry so long. Please don't quote, I'll probably take this down.
