Tried on my dress for the first time -- it didn't fit

Tried on my dress for the first time -- it didn't fit

It wasn't a real fitting -- I wanted to try it on to make sure there were no defects and then take it somewhere else to be altered.

First the color (ivory) seemed off to me but my mom said it looked right to her and then they helped me into it and the inner zipper (it's a corset back) wouldn't close. The gap is like 2 inches. I don't understand because I am actually thinner than I was when I ordered the dang dress. Back then I sat with the consultant and we looked at the manufacturer's size chart together. Maybe I was bloated yesterday? The top (sweetheart neckline) was way too big and the modesty panel that comes with the dress wouldn't snap in to place because of the spread.

I was so freaking embarrassed and so upset that i started to bawl in front of the seamstress. I didn't take any pics but I'll try to post a pic from February so you can see what I'm talking about.

Is there a chance in he!! I can lose two - three inches in two months???

The same thing happened to me with a corset back dress. The sample fit, we ordered 2 sizes bigger because that's what the chart said, and it didn't close when it came in. They fixed it. You would never have known.

It'll be fine.

I joined curves and lost 3 inches in one month.
1' waist, 1' hips and 1/2 ' on each thigh!!
You can do it.

I know a good seamstress can make it okay but in order to do so she has to let it out and it will look wider than it's supposed to. I think that compromises the design of the dress.

It's been really hard for me to lose weight (I gained over 45 pounds due to a medical problem) and I really really hate my body right now.

(FH says I'm fine but he's supposed to say that)

Mary -- I know you're supposed to accept yourself the way you are but I carry a lot weight in my abdomen and I look a little pregnant.

can i ask where you ordered it from? i just had the SAME EXACT thing happen to me and it was a mistake on the part of the girl who measured me.

She measured me correctly and then just ordered the completely wrong size for the measurements. They rushed and got a new dress in within 3 weeks....

FM me if you need

PS - the new dress is in, its perfect. they owned up to the error entirely and fixed it 100%

I'm glad it all worked out for you. Some salons will balme the bride and say you gained or lost a lot of weight.
I orderd it from Macys -- it's a Demetrios. I saw the chart -- I needed a 14. The tag says 14.

eventhough you've lost weight have you been going to the gym or swimming? Because certain exercizes make your shoulders and back Broader!
That happened to a girl that got her dress same place I did. She had been swimming-butterfly and made her shoulders bigger and 2 weeks before wedding suddenly her dress wasn't fitting!

I haven't been swimming or doing unusual exercises... My problem is in the lower abdomen and hips. I would kill for some lipo and a tummy tuck. FH says getting plastic surgery is nuts but i don't agree.

thank you -- I know I need to stop crying and I know it could be so much worse. I have a friend who is morbidly obese and the pain in her knees and legs is unbearable.

Two suggestions to help you lose belly fat:
1: weight watchers...eat core foods but only your daily allotted points. It WORKS very quickly. I lost over 50 lbs on weight watchers (see album). Add cardio.
2: go to macys. They have a long line bra which snaps under your crotch like a bra and it will work with your neckline. It holds everything in and is so comfy! It will take inches off instantly. FM if you need more details!

Recently I went to a nutrionist and she recommended weight watchers which really surprised me. What always stopped me was the price. But I stopped in anyway to talk to them to see what they had to say and they told me that their program is not really meant for diabetics. I'm already on low sugar diet.
I do have long line bras, waist cinchers, body suits, corsets -- they all hurt after an hour I bought a waist cincher that was so bad that I literally unhooked it in my car -- I couldn't wait till i got home. .A woman from a specialty bra shop told me that if it hurts, then it's the wrong size. But if I get the bigger size, it doesn't hold me in as well. I'm going to keep looking -- thank you.

Aw, I'm sorry you had such an upsetting fitting! Try Spanx!! They have all different styles and I swear they are so much more comfortable than corsets...to me, at least. They're not that expensive and you could always make use of them...give it a try.

My dress was big for my first fitting, but I'm still unhappy with how I look. I have back and neck problems and have been in a lot of pain, so it's hard for me to do a lot. Everyone keeps telling me to walk, it's just that I get home so late during the week. So, I will suggest the same to you...try walking and drink ALOT of water. You can lose a decent amount in a month...that's what I'm holding out hope for.

ohhhh, it must be really hard for you to work out when you're in pain. That stinks. Have you tried swimming? It tends to be easier on your joints and the buoyancy of the water will reduce the amount of stress on your back.

I bought so many DVDs and every time I try something, I end up in soo much pain...so that was a waste of money. It's just always something. I've been walking more, just throughout the week. I'm going to try and start walking more, I guess. No, I haven't tried swimming, but I know what you mean. I didn't get a chance tonight, but I have a yoga DVD I want to try...the stretching would be good for me too. I think you will be fine...try not to be too upset about it. I have to wonder if their sizing is off.
