Anyone have a room where they painted the trim significantly darker than the wall color? How do you like it? Any pictures?
I was thinking of doing light walls with darker trim (maybe light brown with dark drown trim or a light color with dark burgundy trim) but everywhere reads that it is better to the opposite...but not sure why. I was looking for something different and like the dark trim contrast. It is for a larger room - so I am not concerned about making the room look smaller.

I think it would look awesome.. are your ceilings white or a lighter version of what you have on the walls?

Re: Trim Color
The room isn't done at all yet. So we haven't decided 100% on colors. We are thinking of replacing doors and putting in crown molding and replacing all the molding to match. We just want to do something a little different. It will be our bedroom and I wanted to keep the walls kind of nuetral so I can add variety in my bedding but still want some different. Debating the dark trim or a texture or both - who knows. But DH isn't sold on dark trim because of what he read - so I am trying to get pictures or other advice.
Right now the ceiling is an off shade of white...and in good condition - so we will probably do the same but am totally open.

Re: Trim Color
What is your furniture like?
We were going to do texture, thank god we didn't.. we had already purchased our furniture but it hadn't yet been delivered, so we didn't quite remember what the color of the furniture was like.. it would have been too much for us..
I'm all about taking risks so I will always try new stuff in the house.. it can be fixed and I don't believe all the do's and don't's out there when it comes to decorating..
You have the vision and once all your ideas are put together, it'll look awesome..

Re: Trim Color
Thanks for you advice. No furniture yet - most likely medium/brown wood/traditional and a brass/metal frame bed. The set I was all ready to buy was discontinued by Thomasville...urgh! Now I am back to the drawing board but want to stay similar. I like mostly clean lines - nothing too ornate.

A friend of mine painted her son's room light sky blue with royal blue trim. I thought it looked nice.

Re: Trim Color
I think it would look awesome with trim to match perhaps the bed set? like a dark would color? that way you can pretty much use whatever bedding you want and that'll be your focal point in the room..
Good luck finding a set..

Re: Trim Color
We have that in our bedroom - suede finish tan/taupe colored walls with dark brown trim & doors. I love how it looks. DH was a little skeptical and was really pleased with it when it was done.
I don't have any pics that show it here, I'll try to remember to post one when I get home.

Re: Trim Color
I just saw a master bedroom re-do on HGTV last night. They painted the ceiling a deep crimson color (a deep, rich red) and the walls were a light cocoa-beige, sort of a colorwash, using a glaze. It had the look of texture and color variation without being anything more than just subtle. The trim was painted a medium taupe color, which was pulled from the same color card as the light cocoa-beige for continuity.
IMHO, it was BEAUTIFUL! There's no 'rule book' that says you HAVE to paint the trim white. Do what makes you happy!

Re: Trim Color
If you are putting in all new moldings and trim you could also stain the wood similar to your furniture. And then it would match whatever colors you decide on. My parents have stained trim on all the doors in their hallways and it looks nice.
Of course that won't work if you have exisiting trim you want to re-paint. Just a thought.

Re: Trim Color
That is a good point, Sept. My parents opted to stain the doors in their house too (as opposed to painting), and it looks equally as lovely!

Re: Trim Color
Thanks everyone - now I have to find some pictures online. We weren't sure if we were going to paint or stain the trim - still up in the air.

I think that will look nice, and like that idea. Good Luck.
