Trojan Horse Virus?

A Norton Anti-Virus box just popped up on my screen. It says it detected the Trojan Horse Virus....what the heck is that? What do I do now??? I am running a full computer scan....but how do I get rid of this thing? What is it doing to my computer?

it is a virus in your computer! I would follow the instructions that Norton gives you about getting rid of it or detaining it!

Did norton's say it removed the virus? When the message from the scan pops up you should be able to click on the name of the virus which will bring you to a description of the virus.

I recently had a virus too. All you have to do is have Norton quarantine it. I also downloaded Norton's firewall and my computer's been running amazing ever since. Good luck.

There's another virus scan available at www.trendmicro.com that sometimes picks up anything that norton's misses.

I would also do a windows update - they sometimes include security patches to protect your pc.

Norton's full system scan found nothing. I am trying the trendmicro right now!

Thanks!

Re: Trojan Horse Virus?

You probably went to a website that had an html virus or downloaded some software that had a backdoor virus on it.

Big pain in the arse to get rid of those. If that thing found its way into your system and registry... they are almost impossible to remove.

My parents wound up with one on their PC. I spent four hours with three different anti-virus programs and i couldnt get it completely removed. I would delete it... and it would re-create itself. A complete re-install of her Windows was the only fix.

Now if your computer just downloaded the file and it never executed... then norton probably just deleted it and its not that big of a deal.

But if that thing launched... and it re-appears in a day or so... you have big problems.

Good luck.

The only thing that popped up on my screen was a box from Norton that said something about the Trojan Horse virus being detected and then another one saying repair failed. There has been no change in the way the computer has performed. I ran three or four system scans that night and it came up with nothing? Do you think Norton caught it before it found it's way in to my computer?

BTW...I was on this website when it happened

Mbluegirl7 i had the same thing happen to me. I ran 5 different virus programs and none of them came up with the virus so i dont know what to do. I was also on this site when the 1st warning popped up from norton.

If the clean or repair failed... your PC may still be infected.

I would just carry on with what you do. If you get another warning in the next few days... then you should have your PC checked out by someone that knows what they are doing.

I have a virus on mine also. Popups come up all the time while I'm on this site and virus warnings. My computer is running slow also. I am going to have someone come and look at it soon.

I actually got this virus. The only way to get rid of it was to erase the C drive and reinstall the operating system. My brother (who builds computers) tried to delete each form of it off (there were 16 of them), got down to the last one and they all came back. Be careful!!! I would have someone look at it. It writes over key files your operating system uses.

Can you tell me what happens when you have the virus? Does the computer run slower? Does it run at all? Is it a security thing....can someone access my personal accounts?

Re: Trojan Horse Virus?

There are a number of things that can be done when you have a virus. The biggest thing you will notice is the random pop up ads. Some of them will make your default home page go to some other site. When you try to change it... it changes back.

They can also log keystrokes, chats, emails, and confidential stuff (ever order online with a credit card???). All that information gets sent back to the virus creator.

The biggest issue that can happen... is your PC can end up being a spam server. The makers of the virus will re-write the software on your PC so it send out all their spam. That can lead to big troubles from your ISP if they get complaints and trace the IP address to where the spam is coming from.

I think thats enough reason to have your PC checked out.
