bump What exactly is a trunk show and what are the 'rules' as far as buying a dress and getting it altered, etc? What are the advantages of a trunk show vs. buying the dress from the bridal shop itself?

Re: Trunk Show
A trunk show is when a designer brings a large selection of their line (more than the store normally carries) for bride to try on. The advantage is that the designer is usually there on hand to offer advice, discuss alterations, changes, etc. You still buy the dress from the store and the store ultimately does final alterations, but at the trunk show you can usually get a sense of what changes can be done by the manufacturer from the designer.

Re: Trunk Show
A trunk show is when a designer has their entire current line on display in a particular store. So, for example, if you are interested in Amsale and attend an Amsale trunk show at a certain dress shop, you will see the entire current line and the popular designs from prior seasons. It is a great way to check out dresses if you love a specific designer. Often discounts are offered when you purchase during a trunk show, usually 10%. The samples that are on display do not belong to the store, but are there as part of the show so they will be gone when the show ends. Other than that, it is just a regular day at the store, there is no actual 'show.' Also, you must make an appt. to try on the dresses. There will be a representative from the designer there to answer any questions.

Re: Trunk Show
Okay, so when you 'purchase' during a trunk show and they give 10% off, is it the same payment policy (1/2 down) as the bridal shop itself would charge? Also, is the dress you see at the show, the dress you get - or do they make a new one for you? Lastly, when you say you need an appt - do I make an appt after seeing the trunk show - or while they are there showing the dresses? Sorry - I'm clueless
